Ram paced around the tree stump. One of the construction teams had decided to take him up on his offer. They needed a stump removed by tomorrow to stay on schedule. However, they’d run into a problem.
The Ogre slid into the pit they’d dug around the huge remains of the dead tree. Some of the roots had been exposed and looked like extended a way into the ground. That alone would have would given the crew difficulty but probably nothing a vehicle with high horse power, good tread, and a sturdy chain couldn’t have taken care of with enough time. There was another problem though.
Ram kicked the other problem so it gave a metallic clang. It looked like the tree had grown around the old steel beam ages ago. They’d twisted together in a dance that tied them together in death deep into the earth. Neither wanted to be dug out but together they strengthened their resolve.
It would mean getting the big stuff out. And the deadline was approaching fast enough to risk calling in off the books help that offered to do the impossible for (relatively) cheap. Without even wanting something up front.
Maybe Ram would have to reconsider that business choice but for now he needed to build trust.
For now, he had a mission to complete and a battle to win. The Ogre limbed out of the hole and clapped his hands together, letting the glamour infuse the tiny stones between his palms. Calling on their help as had been agreed. Then he stretched his arms, rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck to either side before turning back to the amalgamation of steel and pine.
“You,” he said, letting the battlemind burst from behind the dam to fill his thoughts “Will be nothing but scrap, splinters and dust,” he proclaimed. With a snarling smile he lunched himself at ancient enemy.
The air filled with the sounds of battle and drums, raging glamour, and the roars of a Render.
In the morning there was only scrap, splinters, dust, and a smiling (relatively) cheaply paid Ogre.
