The trip into Colorado is long, the winter driving conditions are less than ideal and they grow worse the closer the cell gets to Northpoint. By the time they arrive at the lone highway that leads into the Northpoint valley, the sun is already beginning to set behind the majestic peaks and crags of the Rockies. The sky is stained blood red as they turn onto the exit and begin the miles long drive into town. The light fades quickly, the day dying into a twilight murk as their tires churn over the snowy road, studs chewing into the ice beneath.

But then, suddenly, a pair of blazing halogen headlights sear the eyes of the drivers, throwing the icy road into stark relief as a vehicle on a side road suddenly comes to life. The wail of a siren is heard moments later, and a lumbering SUV tears out onto the road behind them, red and blue lights flashing manically as a voice demands they pull over.

"Slow to a stop and turn off your engines. This is the Northpoint Sheriff's Department. Comply immediately," a brutish voice barked at them, the amplified voice echoing from the snowy trees all around them.

Feel free to post into this thread. Just remember which car you're in!
So far we have: Quatermass Van + Katherine(?) , Lucas Truck + Tasi , Will Car + ???, and Monty hasn't declared.

When they started to get close, Tasi has demanded they pull over. While traveling in her comfortable travel clothes was ideal, arriving in their destination was not. And, with that the video showed, it wasn't like her soft lounge pants were going to offer any protection from the bite, either zombies, werewolves or the cold.

Now, leather on her bare skin in the cold, is hmm. Which is why you have to layer darling~

So, as the call goes out by the godawful Sheriff's Department, blinding her and Lucky Lucas, she has her armour on, a knife tucked away, but still close at hand, and sadly only her grip, and not something more fun because, it might be all the horror movies she's watched, but she had some doubt that these fools were actually from the Sheriff's department. If things were as bad as that video made it out to be. Well...

She steals a glance at Lucky Puppy wondering if they were going to stop.

It might have come as a shock to everyone when Monty volunteered to travel with William Reed , It sure was to Monty himself as he heard the words leaving his mouth. Lord knows there was no love lost between the two men, maybe hours on the road would soften their demeanor, or maybe not.

The red and blue lights highlighted Monty as he sat beside William. A moment of panic flashed through the playboy as he saw the lead car of their caravan being pulled over. He immediately stamped down all emotion and entered into a zen-like, all business, calm outlook. "Well ok then. This is more your wheelhouse than mine, what do we do now?" he said to Will.

Long drives are the worst. It's by the grace of his company and reserve of sugary indulgences that he manages not to get cranky along the way.

As they approach the town and Tasi insists on pulling over, Lucas digs through his gear for his own heavier clothes. In this case a simple heavy ski jacket for warmth and an extra thick layer of protection. His Beretta is under the seat, where it lives when Lucas is out and about. Most of his other supplies are stashed in the bed of the truck.

As the lights flash the Hunter squints and growls under his breath. Tasi's glance is mirrored, as are her reservations. The thing is though? It's hard to say you're a tourist if you enter town by running from the sheriff. It's time to work that cover, so with a sigh he pulls over and follows the instructions being barked at him.

    "Here we go."

A second glance is offered to the beguiling beauty.

Will's car was absolutely immaculate, the exterior was washed and waxed and then polished to a shine that had dulled about with age still seemed relatively recent. The interior wasn't stock standard, both the driver and passenger seats were replaced with more professional seats the hugged the body a little better and had more cushion for impact. Nothing about Will's car was factory standard. There was a roll cage around the windows, additional handbrake, and clearly a nos kit attached to it. That all left little room in the rear, two people could fit incredibly uncomfortably so it was left for their bags, a couple crash helmets just in case.

Driving with Will was interesting, he was far less tense in the car less like a coiled Viper and just more human. He smoked a cigarette, one hand out the window more often than not. The choice of music was usually boiled down into two categories, fast and angry. A smattering of gangster rap in there now and again to shake things up. Tasi's beef aside Will would talk to Monty normally. She wasn't a fragile thing that needed him defending her honor, she could take care of herself just fine. Will would talk about show business mostly, talk about people in the industry, gossip, he wouldn't bring up "work" once if it wasn't offered as a topic first.

That was the thing for Will. The Road was home. The simple act of Going. Just moving. Going anywhere. Stopping was death to Will. He wanted to be anything but still and anywhere but where he was a second ago. Patience had never been his virtue, those still moments just ate and ate and ate at him until he snapped. So the open Road was where Will felt the safest. Safety led to brashness on occasion.

Occasionally matching speeds with one of the other cars and challenging them to a race, going well over the speed limit because the only thing you had to watch out for was a reckless op charge otherwise a ticket was only a crime for poor people What the fuck did Will care about it so long as he could go Fast. There was ways to keep an eye out, do it safely. Knowing some people helped. He only calmed down only as they approached the border to their ultimate destination. Just cruising along with some distance between him and everyone as the lights flashed.

It was an entirely reptilian response. His hands gripped the wheel and it looked like he was about to step on the gas. His necked tensed and spit flew from between his teeth as he slowly pulled over with everyone else. "FUCK! I FUCKING! FUCK!" He slammed his hand into his steering wheel as he cut the engine a bit after Lucas did.

His breathing was rapid as he looked over at Monty almost scowling before he calmed a bit. "Fuck. God damnit. Why. Alright, yea. You're good cop, I'm bad cop. You might have to play nice for me. Something tells me they're gonna tell us to go back home and we're gonna have to gun it. If this turns into a chase you lucked out being in the second safest seat in the house. Let's see what they have to say, wanna take a bet on if they come off as self important?"

He smiled, that predatory edge returning to him once more as he rolled down his window so he could listen to the pigs. Thank god he'd had his motorcycle leathers for this damn cold ass weather. Give me a California beach any day.

Kate is happy to volunteer to drive down with Quartermass. She keeps her backpack by her feet in the passenger seat. When Tasi's vehicle pulled over, Kate dug out the wicking layers winter clothes, the vest and winter coat. She donned the base layers of shirt and pants, reinforced clothing of a leather jacket and layered thick clothing. She put her cell phone with impact proof case and her multi tool case on her belt.

As they travel, Kate carries in her lap one of the maps from AAA of the area, her map of Northpoint in the back of the book. She holds a small flashlight for reading the map when the sun goes down.
As they approach the town and they hear the road block, she frowns.

"No calls going in and out," She notes to Quartermass. " -- yet this quick moving sheriff is montoring the road in. I say we comply. I'll do the wide eyed girl routine when he comes over to our car, if thats OK with you."

She sets the map and flashlight on the floor, carefully away from her feet, and sets her hands on the dash in clear view.

Quatermass is happy for the company on the long, long, drive. He'll even lend Kate the keys so they can take shifts on driving if she feels comfortable with that.

His vehicle is old, worn, and homely. Which is understandable as, he explains on the journey, that he is currently living out of his van and drifting from place to place. He isn't poor - he has funds, now drawn almost exclusively from his work with the Network and supplemented through a less than legal medical practice for 'those in need'. There is enough room for the two of them in his vehicle but by this point the walls and frame of the tin can are beginning to close in on them. The regurgitated air is warm and stale; Quatermass doesn't smoke but he does keep air freshener in the van and the cheap scent is starting to grate on the tonsils.

Quatermass is driving when the cop appears. He winces in the blare of light.

    "
Shit," he mumbles loudly, looking over at his passenger with a growing frown.

He looks into the back of his van where his gear is stored along with any blankets and sleeping bags they've bought for the journey.

"Um. OK. I'll... I'll just go with it. I mean, I don't want to antagonise a cop. Not now."

Shaking his head he follows the barked instructions, slowing to a stop and parking as smartly as his skill and the road will allow. Sighing heavily he opens the window.

[Quatermass Van + Katherine] [Lucas Truck + Tasi] [Will Car + Monty]

As the small hunter caravan pulls over and comes to a stop on the icy road, the Sheriff's vehicle roars ahead and skids to a halt in the middle of the road, snow spraying from the tires as the SUV swings about, it's fat body sitting diagonally across the middle of the road. The lights on the vehicle are blinding in the darkness, twin spotlights firing up alongside the fog lights and glaring headlights, practically leaching the color from that dark, snowy night. It was all bright white snow and and shadowed trees, with a curtain of blackness lurking just behind those blazing lights.

The front doors of the SUV's popped out, the sounds echoing like muffled gunshots in the stillness of the night.

"Turn off your engines and step out of the vehicle," a voice bellowed, augmented and metallic as it echoed from the speakers of the SUV.

Give me Wits + Comp rolls -4 (blinding headlights).

Everything this trooper did screamed power. Or drunk with power. Quatermass stared at the dashboard of his van and, not for the first time, wished he had invested in some dashcam's or other surveillance equipment. Something to record the altercation and later dump it on the web.

    He sighed.

Winced at the bright light. It made clambering out of his vehicle incredibly difficult.

And apparently I can't read :P. Thanks for the reminder Cayce

Quatermass succeeded on his perception check. So he see's what is going on, despite the blaring lights...

    ... He sighed.

Winced at the bright light. It made clambering out of his vehicle incredibly difficult.

But through the glare he saw them. Or saw what they were not. The black of the SUV for one - the rogue medic was self aware nough to know that police vehicles were usually brightly coloured and clearly marked as such. The black uniforms screamed it, too - didn't patrolmen go about in brown or khaki? And assault rifles?

    Assault rifles!

"What the fu... YOU AIN'T COPS!"

In his mind, he bellowed with authority. What actually burst from his mouth was closer to a shriek and a lot less manly than Quatermass would ever care to admit.

He tries to dive scramble back into the van!

And given that Quatermass is doing a fair bit in this post, I'll add this last bit as a conditional / next action Cayce

    failure

Quatermass scrambles or dives back into the van and tries to gun it into motion. LOL I guess he is going nowhere....
