Milton Calls Jacque

[Milton]

Milton sits at his desk. The computer's two monitors shine bluish-white light on his already pallid face. For now, work is forgotten. He is looking at Jacque's business card by the monitor's dim glow. He almost sighs, but realizes he's acting without an audience. At this moment, he's just one corpse alone in his woefully undersized haven.

Time to make the call. Milton unlocks his phone, dials the number of his Priscus, hits the speaker button, and lays the device before him on the desk. Stares at it, listens to it ring.

[Jacque]

Jacque hears the ring of his personal phone. Business or pleasure? He glances at the caller ID, Mister Northbridge's number already stored. Ah, business. He lifts the phone to his ear and after a brief pause, "Jack speaking."

[Milton]

"Hello Jack," Milton hopes the informality will be overlooked given the need for discretion.

"It's Milton Northbridge. How are you?"

[Jacque]

"Well enough Mister Northbridge. How has the Sacramento night life been treating you?" he responded in kind.

[Milton]

"Sacramento is a wonderful city, I must say." Things had been moving in the right direction, it's true.

"I'm hoping you might have some time to meet and continue the discussion we started the other night. Perhaps over a game of chess."

[Jacque]

"Wonderful, I'm glad to hear it." Success in the city was dependent on your own drive, and it sounded like his cousin had a healthy amount. A good boon for the collective Ventrue.

"Certainly. There are some meeting rooms at the club where we met. How does [date] sound?"

[Milton]

"That sounds excellent. I'll see you then."

A pause.

"Should I bring a board, or can we use the set there?" Milton doesn't want to presume. Especially not when the set might be considered to be the Prince's own property.

[Jacque]

"I have one that I will bring. I'm not concerned with playing on the one there, but we'd have to move it and I prefer not to." He didn't want to find out what would happen if she noticed it missing for even a moment. "Take care, and see you then."

[Milton]

"Very good," Milton replies. "Likewise--I'll see you then."

He ends the call and sits back in his chair, very pleased.
