Corn was born in a small town in California, a few hours north of Sacramento. From his mother's side he has Mediterranean roots. The extended family is large and they are employed in agriculture. Corn was always interested in knowledge and had good grades in school. Being awarded a modest scholarship, he went on to study Geology in San Francisco. One night, he found himself in an alien, eerie place of shades and gray. He was in Stygia, where accosted by shades he found the Watchtower and wrote his name to its base. Upon Awakening, he was understandably scared of what he found and what he could now see all around him. This was not the world his family and his studies have prepared him for. Up until the previous day, he was one of those that would laugh about the supernatural. Now he was a supernatural creature and he had trouble dealing with it or understand what he was. Thankfully, he was discovered by Mysterium mages soon after awakening and he readily accepted their teachings.

Years passed and his life brought him back to his home town, working for an office that conducted geological surveys. He was more distant from his family than his siblings and cousins, but as he has been "in the big city" for years, his family accepted that Corn would be more independent and would drop by 2-3 times per month or call every couple of days.
On the supernatural side, soon enough Corn found himself working with a couple of other mages to retrieve valuable texts from a group of "dangerous mortals" as the Consilium of San Francisco labeled them. Corn readily assumed those mortals had stolen the texts and they were pawns of the Seers of the Throne, servants of the Lie. The investigations of the mages proceeded with care and before too long the mages located the headquarters of that dangerous group of militant mortals. Since the mortals were in possession of texts and potentially relics of supernatural power, the mages decided to not inform the local authorities but take matters in their own hands.

A raid was planned and executed in a stormy night. To his surprise, during the raid Corn came face to face with an old teacher of his from his carefree days of highschool. Mr. Tervor was neither his favorite teacher nor one that changed his life, but he was a man that had taught Corn's class dutifully for years, being warm and approachable, a man that Corn knew to be a good man. Mr Tervor was not the hooded nameless minion of evil, he was someone that Corn knew and as importantly a man that knew and could recognize Corn.
Mr Tervor, hurriedly retrieving books and texts didn't present a direct threat as he had not seen Corn yet and was not visibly armed. The mage could perhaps have avoided killing the older man. However, confused and afraid the man may reveal his identity to other sleepers if he survived, Corn shot his old teacher in the back and retrieved the texts. The two mages that rushed to the scene and saw the corpse bleeding on the cold floor didn't comment. Mr Tervor was not the only Sleeper to die that night, all of the mages had blood in their hands.
Masking their involvement and covering their tracks the mages left. Corn presented the texts (including a grimoire the sleepers somehow got!) to the Mysterium and was lauded for his success. However, the incident haunted him. He started doubting who was the evil side between the Sleepers or the mages that killed them. Further investigations on whether there was a puppeteer (Seer, Hunter society a mage cabal, some other supernatural entity) pulling the strings of the sleepers did not include Corn. He didn't want to dig further either - "don't ask questions that you don't want the answers of" as Mr Tervor had often said in class.

Disillusioned with the local mage society and with himself Corn largely withdrew from the mage society there. He didn't resent them nor he cut ties with them but he was less active in the supernatural society of his home town.
One day, his long-time girlfriend Maria, a Sleeper that had no idea of Corn's other life, informed him that she was offered a job in Sacramento. There would be a pay-rise and it would be good for her career but it would require her to travel often. That suited Corn just fine! He would leave his hometown and the bad memories behind. He will meet new mages and as importantly, he would have whole days to dedicate to his research as his girlfriend traveled. He encouraged Maria to take the job, put a ring on her finger and looked for a house with her in Sacramento.

As luck would have it, Corn did find a good house. It was a bit more expensive that one would expect as it was on the top floor of an old building but lo, and behold, it had access to a small hallow! Corn could sense the presence of the magic place and the "energetic" and "industrious" resonance it gave out. Before announcing anything to his fiancé, Corn checked again and again that the Hallow was not taken, that there was no cabal of mages ready to fight for it. Finding no issues with the place, Corn readily convinced Maria to agree relocating in this nice new home. Corn turned the room that contained the hallow to his "personal space" where he would grow a few plants in pots - a good enough excuse for the Tas crystalizing as mushrooms that would jolt a mage like a strong dose of caffeine.
As they were settling in their new home, Corn contacted his father's cousin, uncle Kevin about a job. Kevin was in his 60s and a car accident has left aunt Sylvia with severe disabilities. As such, he had trouble dealing with both the bookstore and caring for his wife. Uncle Kevin agreed to hire Corn as an employee to his bookstore to free up some time. Corn's parents were not exactly thrilled that Corn, with a M.Sc. in geology, would work as an assistant to a bookstore. However, Corn informed them that he has contacted the local universities and he would be using idle time in the bookstore (it was not too busy) to work part-time as a freelancer for the local universities and research centers, doing some research, helping professors write scientific papers, give a presentation here and there about his previous work as a geologist etc.

The first couple of months of settling in passed quickly and quietly enough. But with a lot of time in his hands and a genuine desire to help both Sleepers and Mages, Corn decided to start looking at the mage society in Sacramento.
