Briar Rose reaches for the next scroll. It has the same shape and dimensions as the last, but this one is a Rote.

The complex web of Atlantean glyphs are too dense for the Thrysus to fully comprehend, but she can tell that this spell is powerful.

For reference, this is a rote form of Mind 4 (Telepathic Control) - Mage 1st ed core, p 216 and following

"I'm probably going to burn this one."

Super casual. This is the Guardian you're looking for. Staring at that? Yeeeaaaaah. Who really needs to be summoning things they don't understand? Name one story where that Ended Well™. The only thing a scroll like this is useful for? Seeing who's ambitious and dumb enough to think they can compel an unknown entity for knowledge and power without consequence.

...That's not a bad idea. A few hints and snapshots? Hello baby Labyrinth.

"Okay so none of these are, like, mental Ebola. Or listening to a Libertine. Here,"
he offered his, "Just go through them all and see what we've got."

She laughs. Can't really help it. Almost obligatory.

"There he is!" she claps. She'd been wondering when the no fun police would come to call, though, looking at the Summoning Whatever Scroll TM, she wonders, if she was a few steps away from the Pentacle lines...but then again if she was she wouldn't be here to see that thing.

"This...isn't not. I..." she shrugs, eyes held in a squint. "I got nothin' for this somethin'"

If before was an obligatory laugh, this is a chortle.

She knocks the third scroll open, followed by the ones Star snagged on his way out.

Now the next scroll does have Briar Rose drooling. The Atlantean script is narrow and small and the calculations are long, arduous, and complex. Thats before we get into the Arcana these Rotes (yes, two of them) express are currently beyond the young Apostate. The Arcanum of Mind is always complex, doubly so when trying to fit into the frame of reference shaped by the Primal Wild: and these were not simple Rotes*.

And then there are the scrolls Star purloined from the dream.

If high level Mind was not enough to frazzle the Apostate's senses, confronting some of Death's more vulgar and gratuitous applications were enough to put butterflies in her stomach. Death meant transition in the Atlantean schema that Briar Rose barely understood. And these rotes were much more brutally inimical to Life than that^.

The next scroll was a series of calculations and waypoints that seemed to move, ever so slightly, of their own accord. Stuck in one corner was a faintly glowing "X"; at the centre of the scroll was a solid inky "blob" named The Chantry Paladian.

The last scroll looked like all the others, till an eager mind dulled Thyrsus unrolled it, tripping a little cantrip of Prime and Force: an illusionary explosion of garish colour and phantasmal confetti, twined with a very loud raspberry. Confetti and colourful clouds collapse into cursive script:

    "Sylvanus.
So sorry but I got here first. I've taken the Hand and the Mask of Herodian, and some of the more interesting Works the Master laid here. The Minister will be most pleased.

    Warm Regards - Miriam."

    "Ooooh, names. A Ministry."

It's the same, it's the same in the whole wide world.

"Why... don't we give these to Campanella."

That's reasonable, right? Because Mysterium. And, y'know. Caballero. It would totally absolutely definitely not be a bribe to keep the whole Pixel thing on the dee ell. Of course not. Blue-green eyes were already studying everything, committing them to the House of Cards.

"We can do some research on those names and if there's a loot split situation with giving them to Camper, I'll owe you one."

She kinda blinks, as she tries to restart her brain.

"Sure." she says. It's a little dull and far away in her ears. Sure. She should have expected it. No matter what she acted she wasn't an idiot.

    Exarch.Ministry.Seers.Exarch.

    Fuck.

    She hadn't actually thought....

"Sure. Campanella. He'll have a place for it all." if they could bring the scroll out. "And I'm holding you to that IOU buddy." she tries for like but thinks she failed at it.

how large of a target did she paint on her own godsdamn back.

There was not much else to do.

Stash the scrolls in the faintly luminescent reflection of their Theatre sanctum.

Then focus inward and upward. There is a sense of vertigo, of letting go and they find themselves washed up, drifting rapidly back - out of the Temenos proper, past their Oneiroi, where they come to float in the warm embrace of a deep sleep.

The sojourners come to in the octagonal 'chapter house' of the Circle, amid a welcome pile of cushions.

Campanella was dozing, leaning against a wall. He shook himself awake and went over to them.

I guess we can leave the scene and the plot at this point. Given what we have been discussing in chat we can 'debrief' in a seperate scene if you wish.

For reference: the scrolls will all remain in the Astral. Don't fret, they will be located where Star and Briar Rose left them - in the astral reflection of their sanctum. To bring the spells out of the Astral will require some spell craft. Other options (with the right Arcana) are to boost the items into the Oneiros.

    Hope you enjoyed Astral Dive.

We can revisit the Astral again later
