Campanella was listening, enraptured. And eating. Quickly.

The eating was calculated on his part - he couldn't pressure the Guardian about the nature of the book he had killed for, not with a mouth full of food. He managed a grunt in agreement with Avis proposal while he slowed (and chewed).

The Moros caused a long pause while he finished chewing. He raised a fist to his lips and coughed politely.

    "Books. Theatre. Car Parks."

    Another pause.

"I've already chosen from Briar Rose's set."

    A coy smile.

See? Word. Truth? Lost angel. Does each person do a word? Or take one and pass it on? Feels like at least three different interpretations of the rules.

    I am Jack's blank stare.

"So, like. I'm confused. When you said everyone picks one of the words the others shared, is that one from each list per person? Or one from the aggregate total of everyone?"

Oooh, fancy word. Sure, big words suck, but when it comes to precision? Sometimes bigger is better. He's pretty sure it's the first, but no one else seems to think that sooooo... ask the question.

"That being said? I'll take the toughie. Fjord. Although it's originally Norwegian, it's used regularly in the Scandinavian countries -- including Sweden,"
he mused. "Whenever I think of Sweden, I think of 'Ender's Game' and the way they used the words ramen, varelse, framling, and utlanning. Utlanning means 'foreigner' and was used to describe strangers which are humans from the same planet. Framling means 'stranger' and were humans from different planets. Ramen, or 'the frame', were people from an entirely different species. Lastly, varelse, the creature, or true alien which cannot even be communicated with."

He paused to take a breath and let them absorb that. Yeah, it's really got nothing to do with fjord but that's the association.

"Sometimes I think about, like... the Pentacle and Apostates. Utlanning. Banishers and Seers, maybe framling. Spirits, astral entities, ramen. The Abyss: varelse. Really, it's about whether we understand one another. Or can communicate. Not agree with. I don't know. I don't know where I'm going with this? Whether it's, you know, a reminder that if we can converse, we can share viewpoints? Maybe learn something? See something new? Or that understanding is limited. There are things we can't."

Maybe it's just indicative of their need for labels.

"Uh, anyway? Guess I owe two more words? Phone. Dusk."

So, there were three of them that had been wards of the state, one lost boy, and one boy raised in a home of ghosts.

Although, Avis wasn't sure she believed what Tyche had said. Maybe it was because of the way she played the game. She sensed manipulation, rather than fumbling. And maybe it was because, aside from Star, she didn't really trust the Guardians. She didn't trust most Arrows, for that matter, either, since many Arrows lied to themselves, but that was beside the point. The point was, what was Tyche's deal?

    1 success, Read Tyche

And, as far as the game was going, it wasn't a failure, though clearly she'd done a terrible job of explaining the rules.

"It doesn't matter what word you choose, as long as it's not your own and it hasn't been claimed before," Avis tried to clarify, "but it doesn't really matter. The game's not the goal, understanding is."

A nod to Star for emphasizing that point, and then she paused to consider what word she would choose. She was tempted to take pink. She had a history with that color, a history that had shaped her perception of the world in very drastic ways, a perception she was still fighting to correct, though...

    Car park.

There was really only one reason to share that word.

"Since Star shared about his first kill--" in Sacramento...did that mean she didn't know his first kill? Or was she misremembering?

"I choose Car Park," Avis said, staring down at the pudding in her hands before dumping it in the trash and grabbing a plate instead.

"First person I killed was in a car park. She was an apostate working for the Seers. Spying on this theater, gathering intel on us. We'd tracked them down, yadda, yadda. And she was too dangerous to let live. I don't remember if she was only an adept, or if she was a master, but the chance of her slipping away was too great. So, while she was still unconscious, I wrapped my arms around her neck and choked her to death. I still remember the smell of her hair."

She should. She couldn't forget it. She used the same shampoo. She smelled it everyday.

Avis had been plating her food as she spoke, adding hash and sausage all the while, her voice flat, and a little hollow. She shot a look at Star, then joined the rest of the cabal, taking a seat.

If Tyche appeared to be manipulative, it seemed unintentional. Was she being cautious? Abso-fucking-lutely.

However, the subtle clues on her face revealed to Avis that Tyche had at least shared a true memory. And a sad one at that.

"Campfire. Axe." she said, rounding out her own list.

Then came storytime with Avis. And it just happened to be that fuzzy, warm, and, unfortunately, occasionally needed activity of murder. Second omission of the act this evening. Aside from raised eyebrows, Tyche didn't seem incredibly bothered by the talk of death. Of the Orders, Guardians and Arrows tended to deal with it the most. Even if Tyche's work meant she had yet to be placed in such a position herself, it was not the first time she had heard about a killing.

    Another mug is poured.

    "I'll take Dusk,"
she says. Sure it was a second one from Star's list, but she was given the go-ahead to choose whichever word she liked, "I like the time of day. A sunset has a way of putting things in perspective I think. Better than a sunrise, anyway. Things are less busy. A Sunrise is just a beginning and most anyone is pretty... y'know... solid in the morning. Promises made. Sunsets are a beautiful end and when they happen we can take stock in the promises we actually, y'know, kept."

"Makes me think about Fate in a way," she says, "The strings hit all of us and everything we do, can do, or might do moves 'em along. A record of ourselves in weaved in a fabric and the best tapestries are made with Wisdom. Not everyone's wise. And those idiots Fray themselves."

"I guess what I'm saying is someone's sunrise don't mean shit?"
she offered, sensing her rambling may not make too much sense, "Words are just words until we prove them by the end. Through action and principles."

Eyes turned to her plate, she scrapes the fork on the ceramic, feeling. She didn't know. Part of her wanted to say shattered, but she wasn't there yet. Brittle. Sure. She hadn't thought about that chunky off white, CRT, hen pecking her way through the keys, in actual, literal, years.

    She didn't like it.

Those eyes flick to Avis. With a mental. bitchy why? she didn't want to press forward. Couldn't. Not really. She was still a Shaman. And, Mind was. Uh. Not something that jives with her soul. Which sucked so fuckin' much. She hates that Warlocks could just pluck and peruse. Jesus. Fuck. Cunts.

She blows out a sigh, it's kinda raspberry-like, with how the air forces the sound out. But, it's definitely a sigh. It's the emotion behind it.

Shaking her head and trying and really failing to absorb most of the words that fly around by the others, it's like static.

Which is why she latches onto Tyche's list. Even as it floats above the Dusk. Possibilities and promises.

Distant, blinking away the memories that could crack and break, she still speaks. It was a part of the game, right?

"Axe. The sound of splitting wood. The thunk of the head hitting the stump. Feeling the weight and heft. As I stunk out to get a feel, because sometimes, you gotta use it. You know you're gonna. But you end up not, because you're to fucking scared, so you run. And miss the weight."

She swallows, jaw clenched. Teeth meeting teeth.

Campanella carefully cleaned his plate a second time. Eater slower now as he listened and considered his next move in this not-game. He placed his plate delicately to one side.

"Might as well keep with the outdoors theme. Campfire. A campfire is... community. Family. When you gather around the campfire you come for safety against the dark, but you also come for the sense of commeraderie that being huddled around a point of light and warm can create. In the warm glow we only have each other. We form a circle around the fire. We share... space... as well as a meal... or a story. Everyone is equal. Everyone is at peace..."

He let his voice drift away.

"Or at least, that is the theory. That is the thought that underpins so many picture scapes in art, story, and film. Just a reflection."

Yeah. He remembered. Blue-green eyes watched her assemble food on her plate while his memories drifted with her words. He'd been there, but he hadn't. He'd been beating a guy into the trunk of a car with the lid while she'd been inside of it. What he remembered most? How still the car was, after all the trunk smashing, strangle-rocking, yelling, and then... nothing. Tyche isn't wrong, either. Sunrises. Sunsets. Every ending is a beginning.

Is it his fault the way there's been a subtle shift into interpretations rather than specific memories? Maybe. It's definitely his fault for not finishing what ramen and varelse meant and that there were specific memories.

Camper uses the word 'family' and it's a reminder that he used the word 'home' earlier. It's easy to lose in the signal noise of the girls' more overt usage, but that doesn't mean it's less important. Strays all around. That's a good thing. It means that this will be something cherished.

    "Theatre."

It just feels like the right word to take.

"When I came to Sacramento, the Consilium was claiming all the Hallows. You could't have one unless you had a cabal to defend it,"
he shrugged. Unusual, but not unheard of. "So I grabbed a few people and pitched the idea of just staking a claim on one. Another Guardian and a couple of Arrows. One of the Arrows almost joined an Arrow cabal forming instead, but eventually they all agreed." He grinned at Avis. Things could have been so, so different. "So we put on the magic goggles and found this big, like, ratty old place. We had to break in and it looked like it has been being used as an underground casino. If you...," his eyes closed and long fingers extended as if he could feel the thumping tumble of dice, riffle of cards, and clattering of a ball on a spinning wheel. "Go deep enough, you can feel it. In the res? Luck." His eyes opened and he bobbed his head at each of the 'new' people. "Think it's still there. Still working."

But luck can only do so much. The rest? It's called work.

    "You all right, B-Ro?"
he asked, eyes sliding over to the Shaman. She'd been... relatively... happy and oblivious traipsing around Astral, but now? Eating breakfast and exchanging a few stories and she was ready to pop. "Like. I can hear your teeth. Which is cool, dental bills aside. Just. You know. We can stop? Talk about something else? Or... you can talk more?"

Avis had been so focused on Tyche that she'd completely missed the cues the pink haired girl was giving off, the same cues Star was pointing out.

    It made sense, of couse.

They were all practically strangers. Well, at least when it came to her, with Star being the outlier. It made sense that she wouldn't have picked up on what he did, but she still couldn't resist giving herself a little mental smack, one intended to forcefully open her eyes to all of the cues that she'd been missing.

It wouldn't be difficult for Tycge to hide concern at Briar's words, but, given the games alleged purpose of getting to know each other, it seemed best not to. Thus, Tyche's eyes land on the Shaman as Campanella speaks, keeping the game a'rolling.

Still the old Moros' words are still heard. They all seemed to be robbed of something save for Star, who had deftly avoided talk of his past save for the functions of his duties. Perhaps all of them really did want more than a simple gathering of like minds and resources. Maybe what they were after was a sense of family that had never been their own, but it was too early to tell. Still, if that was true, how sad was that? All the power they had and all any of them wanted was to belong to something.

Eyes flick to Star and his history lesson on the property. However, even TLS knows when to shelve the talk. Something was bothering their resident Shaman. Instability was something most of them seemed to deal with, but left unchecked? Conflagration. Uncomfortable as it was, they needed to see how high the Rose's walls went... or if she'd let them take a peak over.

Tyche had some insight, she supposed, having seen Briar Rose the night she was... dealing with her sister's departure. However, that story wasn't hers to tell. Not while they were all gathered anyway, sometimes security required cunning.

So it was that the Acanthus took one out of the Warlock's book, sitting back and letting the game simmer in the back while granting the Thrysus her intention. Unlike Avis, though, no rote work. Tyche just knew the floor wasn't hers. Briar had to work through some shit.

For Aura: Tyche's aura is predominantly light blue with some shifts of silver.

"I'm fine!" she says, too loud for that to be true.

What meets Avis' eyes, is a noxious mix of conflicting colours. Layered of a field of Grey-Brown, is Orange swilled with Light Green, feeding the Dark Blue. Seeding around, and flickering to life, might be something in the realm of Dark Red bleeding Purple.

"I'm fine." more modulated but nothing like the irreverent Astral Diver.

How did it go again Fucked Up Insecure -

"Just. Fine. I'm fine." she forces herself to release the tension in her jaw. She moves her tongue over her teeth. Abruptly, before she realizes she was gonna do it, she's standing her seat makes a surprisingly loud sound against the floor. She takes deliberately measured steps to whatever's left on the counter, and piles her plate again.

Did Avis' fork count? Was there any words that weren't hers left?

"Forks. You eat with forks, they're for eating." she says. Taking those same steps back to the others, her shoulders have rounded, around her plate, fork defiantly held in one hand. She sits back down her eyes, taking in the torsos of her so called cabal mates, avoiding their eyes, and says, "Fuckin' next."
