Presence
An owl hoots. Watching the mansion from outside. Noting the obvious emptiness and lifelessness, even unlifelessness. The mystery is not one he is motivated to solve. Where is the Sheriff now, either former or more recent? Both were last seen in the Chapter House, and are gone.
The Bishop also is missing, though as far as he knows, she never went into the mansion. He'd as much as promised the Prince that he would suspend his exploration of the Underground until consulting with those who knew more about it, and the Keeper had suggested the Bishop. Perhaps if she continued to be absent, the newly returned, Elder might be consulted. Or perhaps waiting until the Clan acknowledged their missing leader and chose a replacement? Waiting was probably the best course. It usually was.
The owl hooted again, and took flight to the Barrens, to hunt, but not in owl form. He would hunt what an owl might though, not humans. That much of his plan at least, he could keep going with for now.
