(1911) Duel Consilium II

[Kaze]

Kaze watches the duel intently, eyes open and not looking away, not reacting except maybe a slight widening of the eyes at one point, but not looking down or away at any point. He seems to consider it a matter of respect. When it is over, he nods, still not reacting or commenting. His nod is more to himself then to anyone in particular. He glances over at Phoenyx, and then looks steadily at Campanella, giving the Hierarch his full attention.

[Campanella]

Campanella stirs as the weight of their stares fall upon him.

He moved at last, dismissing the now empty Squared Circle and acknowledging the two Duelists (a brief nod for Shodan and a deeper inclination of the head for Winter recognising the victor).

"So it is decided. On the matter of Wisdom, the argument goes to Magus Winter." The Hierarch intoned dolefully. Always Diamond, clothing a clash of Will and Arcana as a debate or simple argument. Much like anywhere else.

He let his guard down then, took a more relaxed posture.

"I can see those gathered here wish to press on with other business. Well then... When I was made Hierarch less than a year ago, our Consilium was few in number. Fewer than it is now. As some of you have noticed, that has resulted in a certain laxness of tradition - principally the Council. Times have changed and our numbers have grown - which I am glad to see."

"And so it behoves me as Hierarch to ask that a Council, made up of one representative of the five Paths, be formally convened. As Hierarch I will sit with them, consult and take guidance from them. As has always been our way. These past months have amply demonstrated there too much power is concentrated in too few hands at present. So spread the word to those not present and convene amongst yourselves to decide who is best to represent your Paths. I am to have the Council restored to working order in the new year."

He let his words sink in.

"We also need a Herald to round out the Officers of the Consilium. Winter here shall remain Sentinel, should he wish it. I remain Hierarch for now. But to truly return a sense of normalcy to our Awakened Nation, we do need a Herald - a go between between the... individuals... of this here River City Consilium."

The absences of a few demonstrated the need for someone to get the word out.

[Phoenyx]

The duel ends, and Phoenyx lets out a breath she didn't realize she was holding.

Winter's defenses were too strong. It wasn't quite the way she had imagined - a lot less flashy from the Sentinel and Shodan bringing a lot more of her own brand of fiery offense. Now, hopefully, the two of them could let their differences rest. The Arrow sidled back over to her usual place at the wall.

The conversation of food seemed beyond anything she could contribute - most of her eating out had been with Kaze, and he was always better at talking to people.

Campenella began speaking, making his announcements. A Council. A Herald. Positions and Politics. With a council of Paths, though? The Mighty seemed sure to clash on certain topics, with so many of them. They mattered little to the First Talon, but it made sense, and she nodded in agreement.

"The Adamantine Arrow will continue to support the Concillium as it needs us," she offers clearly to the gathered mages, before pulling her shoulders around her a little - public speaking, with so many new faces, still made the Obrimos uncomfortable. She takes a deep breath. "Our numbers are few, but should any Awakened of Sacramento need assistance, I watch over the Circle, and can be reached in the tower."

Phoenyx tries to offer a smile, but it;s stilted. You didn't introduce yourself.

There's a flinch. "Oh. I am Phoenyx, the First Talon. So. There's that. As well."

The Arrow withdraws, feeling very exposed.

[October]

The doctor accepts the hand, the shake firm, but not too much, “Hi, and no, we haven’t. How are you?” seemed like the thing to ask.

Shaking her head to the whisper, “No, but that wouldn’t stop them.” This seemed to be a fight that was destined to happen.

A shrug to Star, “That could certainly work. Should it be narrowed down? Because the ‘B’ can mean many things. Though it could make for an interesting gathering if not.” Some might bring beer, some burgers and so on.

Then it was over. The Duel itself not as flashy as one would have hoped given what they could do. But maybe it didn’t have to be. The message sent was clear. Winter had one badass shield and made his point. Which was noted.

What Campanella had to say was interesting. Sounded like he wanted a little more structure. Couldn’t fault him there. It was how most Consilium’s were. Structure gave an order to things.

But she wasn’t about to volunteer for any leadership. Nope. She had enough of that with work. Let someone else try and deal with that here.

Walking over to Shodan, she reaches into her messenger bag and pulls out a water bottle, “Have some water. It has extra electrolytes in it.” Which were always good for repairing and recharging.

[Kaze]

Kaze listens nods, looking around. Then he says, "Hierarch, I am wiling to serve as Herald." Then he looks around again and smiles, "If no one else really wants to do it that is." He invites.

Hope it's okay to post here; Based on the interruption thread, I don't know if anyone ahead of me in the over-48-hours-without-a-post group was going to post this week before the scene closes. Please do delete this if it is preempting anyone who wanted to post first, and I will wait.

[Winter]

Gears begin spinning. According to the Charter they have signed last year, one cannot be both a Consilium officer and a Councilor at the same time.
With Kaze and himself out of the game, the honor would fall squarely on somebody else's shoulders. Either Phoenyx or...
He shrugs, he wasn't going to resign, was he?
The candidate pool was small, but there was a wild card. From the exchange he had a general idea of what he was capable of but he couldn't be certain, but what were the odds?
Whatever, better get the important stuff out of the way first, "The trial", he reminds them.

[Star]

Some things never change. Time to play musical chairs. Eleven minus seven? That's just four... wait, no. Count the Sentinel. That's three people that'll end up not being a Somebody. Smart money says Camper van Beethoven is tired of it all. Heavy hangs the head and all that.

"Hi."

Everyone gets a little wave. No need for introductions, they've already been semi-sorta done.

"Hello. I must object strenuously. While I, that is myself, certainly don't want the job of Herald, it can't go to a blabbermouth. Loose lips sink ships. Nothing personal, Case?" Kaze gets his own wave. "You seem a decent fellow. Even if you make me feel guilty about my gym membership I don't use. Unless you count running in to use their showers during stakeouts. Anyway? Decent enough I doubt you'd deny violating Secrecy at a public coffee shop. I'm sure you were just waiting for the right opportunity to remand yourself for discipline." It's been a long thirty minutes. Everyone understands. "But it's definitely a thing."

Sorry. Really. Just. No more Strikers, yo.

[Cosmo]

Cosmo simply listens for a time as he collects his thoughts. Becoming Councilor for half the concilium would be the simplest way to assert the Ladder's leadership once again and be sure that the Fourfold Scepter is both understood and pushing the awakened ever closer to Heiraconis. It also meant taking responsibility for Winter and Shodan when Cosmo wasn't even ready to take his Factotum exam yet. Decisions....

"The Mighty should meet this December and discuss what we want from a councilor when everyone has had a chance to recover from the day's events." No names were dropped, but Cosmo's eyes did unwittingly flick over to Shodan.Oops.

When Star talks about Kaze's lapse in judgment Cosmo listens. "Is this true?" He watches the Apostate, but it doesn't seem like he's ready to call for rolling heads. It really just meant the trials would be paired if he denied it.
