Ever heard of Telford?

Me neither.

It was a small even when it was big: a village for the workers and key personnel of a rich man's estate. When the estate broke up, Telford was left to slowly fade away. On the north side of town was a small hospital and for a this institution carried the hopes and dreams of the town, but it did not succeed. Not for lack of trying. Not for lack of dedicated staff. Bad luck, local stagnation, lack of resources and time was simply against the town and its hospital.

Lurid sensationalists might point to the weird occult paraphernalia found in the last administrator's home, where he died from a heart attack. But that was long after, once he had retired to a little town further south in the Central Valley.

Conspiracy theorists might point to the strange night of halloween, 1974 - but frankly, that was probably due to the drugs and the booze - when some teenagers broke into the sealed and abandoned hospital building for a lark and a party. They might also push the argument, citing the strange recordings an amateur academic crew picked up when they re-entered the building on halloween, 1978 (conveniently, the recordings have been sealed away in a university vault so the story cannot be completely verified).

And yes, there was the incident in 2005 (this time not on halloween) when a group of burned bodies were found in the building. Released police statements suggest this was related to trafficking, probably carried out in the ruined building because it had been abandoned for years - as had Telford at that point.

By 2019 Telford is barely a blip on the roads heading north west from Sacramento. Most of the houses are gone; and while there is still a gas station in operation, it won't be for much longer (the owner is old and ailing). A few solitary houses (not all occupied) do not make a town.

The single story hospital building stands at the northern edge of town; its elegant Art Deco facade mouldering away into nothing. The wilderness has encroached, chewing up the tarmac and paving. Whats left of the old garden cultivated by the hospital's administrators has survived as a tangled jungle that has run riot and burst its fenced bonds: this riotous growth and clawed its way into the building proper, and spilled out onto what remains of the street. Even by day, this place looks striking and surreal. At night, the garden fills the heady air with the scent of wild flowers.

In 2019, some Awakened mages pay the old hospital a visit. Why not? Its halloween. And the site is sufficiently low on sleeper awareness that a few curious mages could safely visit and sate their desire for Mystery without too much trouble...

I shall leave it up to you how you arrive at the old Telford hospital and whether you have done any further research before you go.

Haunted Hospitals.

The interest probably started there, but either way, how cliche to wind up going to such a place on Halloween of all nights. More importantly than cliche, how fun.

Mobius takes a bus as close as she can to the hospital, and walks the rest of the way, checking the directions on her phone carefully. Dressed in a zip up hoody, jean-shorts with leggings, nothing could get her out of comfy mode when it came to attire. On her nose though, a large red foam ball. You know, the kind that clowns wear. Honk honk. Whether or not she believed there was anything really to this place, she couldn't contain her excitement at getting to pretend to be an archeomancer for a night. Maybe one day she'd hit the jackpot and be able to present something of note to the Mysterium.

Even if she wasn't taking this totally serious, she came prepared with just the basics. Just the basics.

A haunted clinic didn't seem like the best place to be at any time of the year but especially in autumn especially this close to 'Ole Hallows eve'. But considering his long term goals Spark decided it would be a good idea to get some experience with the other side. Even if that experience was to banish or destroy the denizens of whatever the other side was. It was good experience, he parked outside the Hospitals parking lot and walked the rest of the way there. Before coming he'd topped off the gas and brought a flashlight along with his usual gear.

He was came wearing a pair of sneakers, good hard wearing jeans, a black shirt underneath a puffy pocketed hoodie. His gun was stowed along his waist and the small flashlight was in the dual front pocket of the hoodie. As always his phone was with him as well, never left home without it.

Equipment: Colt M1911A1, Chevy Impala (parked but there.), Smartphone (magical tool), and flashlight (I figured it's a small purchase but I get if it's vetoed.)

"Da da di da du da.... Who ya gonna call?" Anima sings to himself as he hops out of his Jeep to fill up on gas at the run down station. On is feet, boots, on his body, a Ghost Busters Costume. Movie Quality. He's very proud. In the passenger seat a replica proton pack and p.k.e. meter.

This is his ideal way to spend halloween, checking out a haunted location, perhaps there will be some evil spirits that need vanquishing. The Thrysus lets the pump do it's job, and pops open his back door, checking his supplies one last time. Ghoststop.com was having quite the sell and he had ordered the pro ghost hunting kit .

He popped open the metal case and made sure he'd remembered to pack extra nine volt batteries for the EMF reader. "Ghost Busters!" He sang outl oud as he closed the case back up. Returning the pump to it's holder he went inside and picked up some extra water and enough snacks to make a 14 year old have an acne break out.

With his eyes open and his soul shielded he heads to the hospital, ready for the most interesting experience he's ever had in an "on call" room.

Anima just misses Papilio at the gas station, but the Thyrsus will recognise the Mastigos' car once he pulls up at the hospital (the Warlock was pulling out as the Shaman was driving into the gas station).

Papilio recognises just how soon the fading township will loose its last remaining convenience... the old proprietor is close to death. If the old man's wan looks did not already betray it, the resonance of his aura did - especially to someone with the Grim Sight.

Spark arrives first, taking pride of place in the crumbling and overgrown car park. The old hospital lurks threateningly in the background with its empty window sockets (all the glass is gone now; and such is the township's general neglect that the building is no longer boarded up). The entrance is a gaping maw: large, wide, and ominous.

Papilio compact car turns up next - just before Spark can enter the building.

The two as yet unknown mages approach one another. But before they can converse a familiar song cuts into the silence; swells as another car approaches. And so Anima arrives.

Mobius arrives last, foot sore with a good burn in her legs from the long walk she has taken from the nearest bus stop. She finds three other mages clustered together in front of the threatening mouth of the hospital's entrance.

The sun is sinking beneath the horizon. Shadows lengthen and merge. The temperature drops as the last rays of sunlight fade away. Its just the onset of night, you say, nothing more.... Right?

Hope you don't mind me gently moving things forward. This plot is supposed to be a single scene, so I'm trying to keep things on track
Mark I am assuming Anima has done some Ritual Casting there as you only need one to make one roll per spell otherwise (as per house rules, Paradox only kicks in for 3-dot spells and above, unless rotes are used).

Anima has a Potency 7 Second Sight (Duration 1 month) and a Potency 3 Shield (again Duration 1 month).

Spark stops short of entering the building and eyes other three mages. He nods his head, and introduces himself. "Spark," The prime mover eyes Anima. "Not a bad choice in music, so is this every..." Spark clams up as the temperature drops and the last rays of sunlight faded, night fell quickly. Really quickly.

"So...I hope someone here is skilled in Death, otherwise it's gonna make for a long night."
