A Couple of Party-Style Hacks

"Certainly," agrees Derek, lowering his voice to a comparable level. As his hearing focuses to a razor's edge he picks up the minute sounds around him. Of course that includes the city noises as well, giving Derek a pained look. But such suffering has purpose.

"This company I speak of has moved into the city after establishing itself in others, buying up property and then developing on it. They've been building since the start of the year and have nearly completed their structure. They've dug deep underground as well, expanding their complex for some unknown purpose. They have vast amounts of resources and influence within the city. On the surface it's all legit while they hoard weaponry aimed at exterminating us."

Derek looks around conspiratorially as they walk, the tension in his whispered voice rising.

"But if we can target their finances we can deal them a deadly blow. They do everything through a financial contact at a highly secure bank. If we can get to a secure system on the inside, we could lock their account and the company would dry up before they can finish whatever it is they're planning."

Edward's eyes flashed at Derek's news, "that is... quite the revelation." Shock at the clear and present danger, was the Prince incompetent? Was the threat that great? What kind of domain would allow such flagrant disrespect from inferiors? Anger coiled up in his throat and disgust turned his stomach, although that last part might have been the burger.

"Obviously, this is our priority. Please continue. Do they have specialists in handling us? How pervasive is the threat?" There was a raw edge to Edward's voice. Although it wasn't clear if that was from repressed rage or panic. To think we were playing a game, what is wrong with this Domain? Every day, the repressive cruelty of his sire appeared more reasonable. If this was the result, then it seemed a fair trade.

Valid questions. Derek is quick to answer.

"My predecessor had some success in impeding their efforts. But she was targeted by their agents in retaliation, if you can call them that. Fortunately they've simply been reacting to our interference rather than taking direct action. We aren't certain how much information they have on us or if they even regard us as a threat to their agenda," he informs Edward.

"I believe that if we do nothing then there may come a point where we loose all leverage against them. I have some leads I want to pursue to determine their end goal, but I also want to see if I can count on your support to cripple a potential threat. Tell me, what do you know about this Aiden Whitney fellow? I heard he has some financial interests in the city but don't know much more about him."

Impeding? Interference? Is that what this Domain's strength amounts to?

This was the cost of a small domain, other powers could fill the vacuum. That would have to change. Edward and the rest of them would have to survive long another for that change to occur. Nothing else to do.

"We will show them how much of a threat we are." It was hard to tell, given the low tone, but Edward's tone seemed matter-of-fact, "You can count on me. I spoke with Mr. Whitney last month, lively one, we mostly discussed whiskey." His lips twitched almost into a sneer at the last word, they stockpile what must be incendiary rounds while we play nice in a club?

"If it for company security, I have no doubt he would be pleased to lend assistance." Oaths had been sworn, and without a Kindreds word, boons meant nothing, it didn't take a genius to see where that would lead.

"I would hope so. I had heard that he has some business interests, which I hope may equate to a familiarity with financial connections. I will likely call him in on our first meeting," Derek shares with Edward before coming to a street corner and halting his walk.

At a normal volume he says, "That's all I have to share on the matter right now. Do what you think you need to prepare. I'll contact you soon. Thanks for the company tonight, Mr. Heinrich."

He lingers, but he appears to be eager to wrap up the remainder of their conversation.

Edward mentally winced at the full volume; their talk was done. He reduced his hearing. "Code samples or transmissions you could send my way will assist in preparations."
There was work to do.
"A good night to you, Derek. I will look for your call."
