    Arturo Garcia

Arturo rose from his seat as Ellis closed out with his question, his body creaking much like the pew. Slowly, methodically the starved Ventrue made his way to the altar and the podium in front of it. While not decedent like the Catholic pageantry he was used too but it got the purpose across, did what it needed too - and the exact iconography was a little less important when you realized Vampires were real so there was a lot more than you had ever understood.

Once at the podium Arturo leaned on it, his forearms down as he offered Ellis a wide grin.

”You are on the right track - there is no grand design, that is a sick joke told by scared people who need to be coddled. We are in the sandbox made at the whim of the Creator and given the free will to do as we wish. This includes the capacity to do as much Good or Evil as we can. Humanity does not have the same mechanical purpose we see in other species - we are much more of a hot mess about this whole existing thing.”

“The point is, we are tested to see if we are capable of being our best selves against all odds. And quite often we fail. Our condition? It is indiscriminate, chosen by humans made monsters and not bestowed by God himself in any way shape or form. Now, I can’t tell you about the origins of the Beast or what its true purpose is. But I can ask - what is the difference between the Kiss and a mist that steals your firstborn? We are the fleeting remnants of humanity shown how fragile we really were before our embrace.”

“We look at what we lost, and realize the divine joke we have become despite all the perceived strength and power that comes with the Curse. It is the ultimate allure isn’t it? What can’t we do? Simple, we can’t really taste, or connect, or even see the sun. We are broken humans at best, and if we give into our baser desires we will either destroy the stock that sustains us, or we will end up at their mercy.”

He repositioned, lifting himself up and leaning on his palms now as he gave his sermon.

[color=#ff4500]”Now, as victims of circumstance and still trying to hold our sense of free will and humanity against the ever consuming serpent that dwells in all of us, what is fucking up in a spiritual sense?”[/i]

The Lord took a moment and looked up and took an unnecessary breath before looking back down.

”If you ask me, another man turned monster like yourself - I would suggest this. Giving in. Giving in, in the sense that you lose your freewill and you let the beast take over and you forsake the greatest gift we were ever given in the form of our agency. We lose our freewill, we lose the lesson, and we lose the ability to serve a cycle.”

He shifted once more, returning to leaning on his forearms and looking down at Ellis in the pew.

”A little preachy, but I hope it made sense. And this is all philosophy really, rather than a practical assessment of the Domain we find ourselves residing in.”

Arturo's quiet yet passionate sermon holds his own belief and interpretation of the nature of the Beast and an answer to Ellis' question. There is an amusement in getting to explain in a way that almost seems like venting. He aims at answering the idea of a 'purpose' of Vamprism, and how it should be handled in loose terms. But has clearly baited that the Domain may be at odds with this view without say as much - seeing if Ellis will ask the questions. Ping me if any of this explanation for this answer to your roll is needed!

Well the Bishop was passionate. Unpolished, sure, but polish wasn't all that much in the grand scheme. He was captivating, and not all that bad looking if you discounted the whole corpse aspect of it all. What mattered the most in Ellis' eyes was that he believed. Coming from LA he had met Sanctified that were little more than snake oil salesmen, two-faced con-artists mouthing whatever they thought you wanted to hear and expecting you to pay for the privilege, in money and favors.

That was most certainly the read that he had gotten off Adam, back in May. No, Arturo Garcia wouldn't be someone he could just throw money at and get a lapdog for his trouble. Arturo, given time and the right support, could handle a pulpit. The Domain needed someone like that.

And Ellis wouldn't feel like he was faking engagement at Mass if it was this man.

"And what would be a 'practical assessment of the Domain we find ourselves residing in', Bishop?" Ellis asks with a smile. With such a leading question dangled in front of him, by someone who had been nothing but cordial to him all evening despite his handicap, how could he not. Ellis expected he knew what the practical assessment would consist of, what lines it would follow. If he was right, he'd buy himself a treat.

Who are we kidding? He'd buy himself a treat anyway. If he was on the money, he might even buy two.

”There seems to be a bit of a cough, a sickness one could say.”

So bold, it was refreshing. Ellis spoke volumes with so little words and let tone. It was odd for Arturo to be dealing with a proper Invictus, and it made him want to watch his tongue - but the pride that beamed from a man at his proper perch was intoxicating, the predatory grin was hard to keep subtle. Power was the finest wine for Lords.

”It is a cough now, a fever at times, delusions another. Night terrors are not unheard of.either. The whole list of symptoms - right now, not all at once but they grow more frequent, The real problem? There seems to be a reliance on soothsayers rather than real medicine. It is a sickness that you can’t just pray away.”

He took a moment to lock eyes with the Daeva and let silence linger for a moment between them - unless Ellis felt the need to break through the quiet.

”But like I said, I am just the Bishop.”

The smile stayed as he waited to see if the answer was satisfactory.

"For the sake of clarity, Bishop Garcia." Ellis asks, voice mild. A student politely asking a professor to explain a particularly vexatious problem. "Is this sickness one where Her Majesty feels so threatened by her Sheriff telling the Harpy 'torture bad, kindred no torture' that when much of the Court save for Her Majesty's personal supporters begin to voice their agreement or share their expertise in the matter that she must simultaneously reverse her open stance that those she considers threats to herself deserve to be tortured and experimented on under the guise of a Hard Woman Making Hard Decisions for the protection of the Domain, while stripping the Sheriff of her Regency on obviously trumped up, tissue thin charges of 'disrupting court' without touching her position as Sheriff, thus dismantling her ability to project soft power and reward others for good service to the Domain and supporting her while leaving her hard power and position of authority untouched? An action that, incidentally, fucks over an entire covenant of supporters for the sin of agreeing with the Sheriff when she tried to warn someone who was obviously loosing her grip on humanity that she needed to attend to her spiritual health?"

"Or is it where the Prince chooses someone so bad at being Clan Whip that his charges bicker openly all night in Court to the point where someone challenged him to Monomancy while everyone was looking as her Herald and Chosen Representative? Someone who proved to be so pleased with his new title that he seems to drop all pretense that his previous duties ever mattered to him, then bumbles around Court like a curious mix of Mister Magoo and a frat boy with a ten dollar baggie of oregano in his pocket?"

"I'm just a Daeva, you see." He flutters his eyelashes at the Bishop. "And I'm sure someone like you knows Daeva. Easily distracted with mirrors and sparkly things. The whirl and spin of Court. Consumed with petty, frivolous matters like opera and this season's haute couture. Mean for no other reason than being mean. Sometimes we need someone to come right out and explain complex situations to us so there's no... miscommunications."

"Dancing is for Court, after all." Ellis says, eyes crinkling with his smile. "Or is this one of those wild, seedy churches that approves of dancing?"

    Imagine the scandal.

    "Something like that."

He chuckled and stepped down from the podium.

"We should talk some other night though, the moon moves quickly in these summer nights. Thank you for the visit, Mr. Meadows. It brought me great pleasure."

    Thanks for the great scene!
