The gentle sound of Pipe music resonates gently through the Circle.

In the central quad, a lithe shape moves slowly throught the kata of T'ai chi, breathing slowly.

In.....

Phoenyx spins, a sissor-kick cutting out through the air. Another spin, and a heel carves through the space her head just was. She lands lightly, as if she had never moved across the grass, and gently brings the Kata to a smooth completion, as if she had never interrupted the movement with another art.

.... and out.

"Flow like the stream, little Sparrow. The air is most free, yes, but also the most directionless, only a fraction of it's flows harnessed. Power is worthless without direction or purpose. It cannot be the end in itself, for some live their lives without it and find more joy than those with all they ever need."

Phoenyx permits herself a small smile at the memory of her mentor, before releasing the pose and opening her eyes. She moves slowly to the centre of the grassy quad and adopts a locus position, waiting for any students still interested in her class to arrive.

As mentioned here Phoenyx will be doing another self-defense class and meditation.

This is an open scene that also helps any characters looking to build up those physical skills in these dangerous concillium times!

The strength of a Consilium is a function of the skills of its members. The Guardian knew this. As the Sentinel it was his responsibility to see that the tip of the spear didn't blunt. The First Talon would keep his arrows in shape, he was sure. But on his own, the Guardian espoused the old adage, "trust but verify".
He stands there imperturbable, leaning behind a column, watching quietly as the Arrow performs her dexterous movements under the gentle direction of a delicate tune. His spook habits are strong, he's unwilling to disturb her, yet the tapping of his feet against the pavement gives him away. A gentle breeze blows against the fabric of his white shirt, cotton over kevlar, sending the ashes of the cigarette resting between his lips in a downward spiral toward the grassy lawn. Another drag, another puff. Know yourself before you know your enemy. But to master yourself, mind and body need to work in tandem.
Yes, this Arrow probably knew that.

Phoenyx opens her eyes and casts a glance straight towards the lurking Guardian. Unhurriedly she unfolds herself, rises, and moves towards him, "Sentinel Winter," she says as greeting, his presence drawing a small smile.

Her eyes look him up and down quickly. Assessing.

"I am glad you have come. Will you be participating, or observing? Or will it depend on the purpose of the lesson?" He was wary of what she taught before, she knew, but the Arrow had nothing to hide.

"Observing... for now", he says wearing a stony expression, "don't mind me, I didn't mean to interrupt", he added curtly.
"The Council appreciates your contribution", he said, evidently weighting his words, "hopefully the practice of meditation will assist in taming the most ebullient temperaments among us", then he took another drag from his cig.

"You didn't," Phoenyx says. "I've been here for over an hour. It is important to know the area before you are supposed to show others to know it, would you not agree?"

The Arrow shakes her head. "So far it seems the members of this Concillium are aware of the benefits of defense, but meditation and focus is a novel superstition to some." Her lips tug at a smile. "If you are hoping these techniques will sober some of our more eccentric Awakened I am afraid I may have to disappoint you. I cannot make them change - they must choose to do so or it means nothing. Some, I know, already employ these techniques for their own ends, to follow their own paths."

She turns and heads back to the grass. "Either they will come for this offer, or not. I will do an Arrow's duty and protect the Concillum - as has been the role of Arrow since time immemorial - regardless."

Phoenyx folds back into the lotus position on the grass.

"I'm not disappointed", he says, by now the woman was back to her routine, "some people perform up to the expectations you set for them... unsurprisingly"
"I've heard people were quite eager to be taught. Personally, I wouldn't object if they got a bit more disciplined", he could name a few.

The Firebird inhales slowly, and closes her eyes. "Then perhaps expectations should be raised. Standards forced to be higher. We are more than human, with greater power and greater responsibility."

Another smile tugs at her lips. "Self discipline is a skill not possessed by all." The ghost of humour fades. "I would like to ensure all of our Concillium can defend themselves enough to escape an attack without magic. Not all are soldiers, or spies, but some of our fellow mages need to realize that our lives are not safe. Some seem to think they are free to their studies, or to hide will keep them safe. Who needs to throw a punch when you can transform your enemy with a thought?" She sighs. "Mundane methods often surpass arcana when in public. Avoid the eye of the Abyss. Maintain the Veil," she offers a small nod to him, though her eyes remain closed. "Dependence on any one strategy will inevitably fail. Adaptability is Strength, not just for the Arrow, but for all."

She twitches slightly, a wound visible at her shoulder tensing slightly.

That misunderstanding would have earned a chuckle from a less serious man, "I never said those expectations were positive", he corrects, "I'm not disappointed because I was right. They confirmed my expectations. Prepare for the worst-case scenario, that's it"
She was a good preacher, but the Guardian knew better than take people's words at face value. Everyone could talk the talk, but few could walk. "I agree, at the end of the day it's not the strongest that survives, nor the most intelligent, it is the one that is most adaptable to change"

There is a small nod in agreement. Then the dark eyes open, looking up at him.

"My parens taught me that the Awakened hold a unique position, in that our perspectives can shape reality rather than the other way around," Phoenyx replies softly. "Perhaps, in your new role, you might wish to change the reality to exceed those expectations." There is a pause, and she cocks her head slightly. "What expectations do you have of me, Magus Winter?"

The Guardian was a curious man. He had his principles, and his duty. Phoenyx respected that about him. She was also fairly sure he would not hesitate to do whatever was needed to preserve the Veil. Knowing his mind would help pre-empt potential problems, especially as the Arcana of Forces excelled at flashy vulgar magic... something the Arrow privately enjoyed greatly.
