It's a lovely day in Curtis Park. There's enough sunshine to warrant people strolling out and about with their dogs, kids or smartphones but, still being wintertime, not enough to rise the tempreature to uncomfortable levels. The early hour means it's not as crowded as can be, though, which suits Shodan fine. He's found himself a nice outdoor basketball court and dances with a ball, flowing around imaginary opponents, running and... he shoots, he scores!

Here's hoping he'll fare just as well if some other people decide to show up, too.

He's alone, with passersby paying him no mind. The paths are far enough that whoever'd walk them wouldn't hear a casual conversation coming from the court - and vice versa. One can only wonder if there'll be anyone to have the conversation with...

It's one of those rare days when the Guardian can let his hair down. Sit on a bench, gulp a thermos of tea, eat a sandwich or two and alternatively think about his own problems or watch a game of basket, the American Way. He chants a few syllables of High speech, his control is not perfect and he feels the glyphs shatter under the pull of the abyss. Nevertheless, he regains his composure and with a little bit of effort his protections are put in place.
He looks around, the court would be desert if not for the single lone player whose face he recognizes. He decides not to approach him right away, willing to spend a few more seconds to observe his footwork.

Apparently oblivious to the Guardian observing him, Shodan continues his game, dodging the invisible enemies, making a run for the basket and placing the ball right in it.

The kid was good, almost to the point he could have made off guard into NCAA. The Guardian takes another gulp of his black tea.
"Good one", he says, "First to 10? Humor this old man", he adds, cracking his neck as he enters the court.

"You are so on" Shodan replies, trying to push away the question of how long exactly was he observed by the Guardian. And if today was the only day "And after I kick your ass, we can talk or something. I'm in the mood for making friends" A wink.

An extended, contested action of Dexterity+Athletics? Whoever has the most successes wins, tie results in one more roll on each side? If that sounds okay, go ahead and roll

Damn, gramps is good.

It takes all of Shodan's focus and whatever skills he picked up playing in high school to match up to the Guardian, and even then they're exactly equal. Both players exert perfect control over the game and the environment, and there's just one obstacle they cannot brave - the other guy.

The ball dances across the rim of the hoop, ready to fall inside until the very last moment when it just slams against the backboard. The Libertine is fast, he readily catches the rebound and from behind the free throw line taps one last shot in. It's magnificent, the sniper inside the Guardian appreciates its precision.
It's been a close match, but those last 3 points earn the Libertine a well deserved victory. "Good", the Guardian says while he catches his breath.

Shortness of breath. Excessive sweating. Thirst. All signs of an exhaustive excercise, but also of something that was utterly, totally, decidedly awesome.

"Man, that was... wow. You're good, you're more than good. Were you a military super-soldier in the previous life or did you just have a stint in the NBA?"

He's sincere, completely. They may not see eye to eye with Winter on some things, but there's no denying the man has skills.
