(1812) The Salt Well

    John Doe

John's station is a decorated galvanized tank. Next to the tank is a table set up with rice paper, an ink well, and multiple brushes. For those who look into the tank will see that the bottom is hidden underneath a thick layer of salt. The smell is potent enough to remind one of the ocean.

"Tonight, we reflect upon our past tragedies. Take a piece of rice paper, and dip your pen into the ink well. On the rice paper, write one word that is most associated with your deepest sorrow that you can remember. You do not need to share this memory. Just take time to remember what happened and how it affected you."

An alluring young beauty, Sonnie Wu is 5'2" and lean-bodied, with a light, nimble step and eyes that seem to say "Hey, you know what would be fun?" Her reddish-brown hair often seems slightly unkempt, and an amused smile regularly plays on her lips. Sonnie is usually dressed casually or for outdoor activity. She almost always wears a pair of red leather tabi boots.
    Mien:

To the eyes of Fae, Sonnie's feet are like those of a monkey: Toes as long as fingers, with one on each foot being opposable like a thumb. A long monkey tail protrudes from the base of Sonnie's spine, covered in hair the same shade as her head. It appears to be prehensile, and often moves to react to her mood and dances about when she speaks, like people who "talk with their hands." Finally, her brown eyes turn golden.
    Mundane Equipment:

Smart phone, messenger bag, quarterstaff, 2 throwing knifes (concealed), 3 goblin fruit (changes by season), mountain bike.

It was only natural that the curious monkey would wander over to John Doe and the unique set up he had. Sonnie listened carefully to what the Darkling had to say as she peered closely at the various brushes and the tub of salt and water. "Interesting! I feel like I've heard of something similar to this before. I shall partake!" She smiled and picked up a piece of the rice paper and one of the brushes.

She didn't dip her brush right away, however. Instead, the Spring Beast took a minute to think. She stared at her blank page and chewed on her bottom lip in contemplation. Finally, she dipped her brush in the ink and spent several more minutes carefully trying to write her word with a brush. It's not something she's used to because who does that these days? Eventually she finished, and set the brush down in the appropriate place.

Holding her rice paper so it could not be viewed, she looked to John. "So, now what? Do I drop it in the tank?"

Pierce flowed over as well, all lanky and lithe in his classy suit. Eyes cold and sad, with an Old Fashioned in one hand, he nodded to John Doe a couple of times, pleased at the tradition, pleased at the way to share their ways on their night, regardless of what certain Summer Courtiers felt.

The word flowed easily, more easily than anything ever had in his life, even more easily than wedding vows lovingly written, more simply than 'I do.'

    Sarah

His lips clenched into a flat line, and tears began streaming down his face. Nothing was fresher. How could you hide your Love when it was also your greatest Sorrow?

John nodded to Sonnie, "Yes, when you are ready, drop it into the salt water. Watch as it dissolves, and take that time to remember the fallen." John then picked up a brush, and wrote one word.

    Ava.

He folded the paper, then looked to Maxwell, allowing him to go before he did.

Sonnie looked at John, smiled and nodded. She folded her piece of rice paper and turned her gaze to the tub of salt water. Gently, she drops her slip of paper into the liquid. She watched it quietly as it dissolved, her hands clasped behind her back. The Beast looked thoughtful, a rare serious expression on her usually amused face.

Then it was gone. Whatever sorrow she had written upon the rice paper did not vanish into the ether as easily as the paper, of course. It was a nice symbology, just the same.

Sonnie stared at the water for another moment, then quietly turned and returned to the main party.

The Crow arrives after the others, after the instructions, but seems to grasp the concept readily enough.

He nods to John Doe, and in the general direction of Maxwell J. Pierce, and then writes quickly and smoothly with the brush on the rice paper, no more than a single word, possibly. He drops it into the water and watches intently and in perfect stillness until it dissolves completely. Then he sighs.

There was not a whisper of sound from the ghoulish Elemental. She took in the instructions in silence, face unreadable. All of her body language was rigid, and she skirted on the edges of the others' presence. She was the last to partake in the rite, moonish eyes flickering from Lost to Lost. There was a sense of intrusion on something sacred and unsaid, and yet, she was as welcome to participate. Biting her lower lip, the Onyx woman stepped forward, swiftly snatching the pen. The word had been in her mind, but it was now that she acknowledged it for what it was.

    Forget.

There was more to her sorrow than being taken by Winter Itself into Faerie. Something was forgotten, and so was she. She was a wind that had passed by, a cloud moving beyond the trees. She was a star's glow fading into daylight, the last snow of the season melting beneath crocus-flowers. All had been well, and the world had turned, blind and oblivious to that one forsaken soul. She didn't even know where her fetch was, or who they might be now. All she had was the vaguest sense of a country across the ocean, and an age she might've been.

Into the salt well it went. The Elemental didn't linger. Her flapping black shroud, flimsy and smoky as burning raven's feathers, followed and left with her wake. In case there was more to the act, the woman lingered at a distance.

Mein: Rhodes has pale whitish skin, elfin ears and deep, overly large emerald eyes. Thin black veins broach the surface of his skin like the roots of a tree emerging from the ground. Dark, broad leaves sprout from his wrists, ankles and temples, spreading around the back of his head. Deep red flowers bloom at the temples and wrists.
    Mantle

Mantle: A breath of icy wind, the kind that penetrates and sends a chill down the spine. Ash leaves in red, yellow and gold spin into existance around him, caught on the breeze. As the wind blows, unnerving whispers can be heard, always coming from a direction just out of one's field of vision.

    Flowering

Rhodes and Sera walk slowly over to the tank. He gives the Nyx a reassuring look.

The Dread Lord breaks away and takes a slip of rice paper. He waits for several moments before solemnly printing a single short word on the paper.

    Love.

Reaching through his rigid, inscrutable mask show hints of sadness, and anger. Folding it and throwing it into the tank, he inclines his head to John.

He moves tensely away from the tank and turns to watch, his eyes lingering on the paper as is sinks.

    Abraham Norton

Thanks to so many of the others participating in the ritual before him, and what bits and pieces he's overheard, Abraham makes his way to the writing utensils without unneeded questions. He takes a piece of rice paper, dips a pen into the ink well as instructed and then... freezes for several moments. He prefers to not think about past sorrows, instead living in the moment, but eventually a word appears on the paper's surface.

    Home

And so, like others before him, he tosses the sorrow into the well, and watches it dissolve into nothingness. A cathartic experience, to be sure. Crafty, those Silent Arrows.

For one that had embraced the Court, you would think it would be an easy task. This idea had been rolling around in her head for quite some time. Limiting it to one word was quite a challenge for the Fairest. There were multiple words she could write. There were people, events, tragedies, and an entire world of problems. Yet, there was one over arching word that encompassed it all.

When it was the Dancer's turn, she pulled the pen from the inkwell and slowly wrote four letters onto the rice paper.

    Loss

She folded it twice and let it slip out of her fingers into the tank. Sasha watched it slowly flow through the water near to the salt that lay at the bottom. But it never did strike the bottom; it disintegrated before it came even close. She would probably never be content with all the loss she'd experienced, nor put it behind her. It would always remind her of the past and how she came to this place in time.

The Onyx waited in case there was any more direction from the Sunbanisher
