Striking Looks
PresenceRebecca's counter surprised Clara. She could almost see some authenticity behind the friendly face and allow herself to be lulled into it. No. Clara steeled herself against the impulse. It didn't matter if she was sincere or not. Focus was necessary here.
Clara took a moment to nod at each of Rebecca's points. "Your points are fair, Rebecca." Beyond fair, truth be told. Clara eased into her seat and allowed her body to project an aura of relaxation. She came in here expecting to make a true enemy. She honestly didn't expect Rebecca to take the offer Clara had made without a few more steps to their danse. "I find those terms agreeable..."
Just as she was combing over the finer aspects of the deal, Rebecca dropped a bombshell. The Prince, evidently, didn't want anymore mistakes from Davis. No amount of charm or manipulation could get in the way of Prince Antionri's claws. "Though it seems our work is cut out for us. But one thing at a time. Before Davis can be seen as favored by the Prince, he must at least be presentable. And not put his foot in his mouth at every opportunity." The aura of confrontation evaporated from the Bacchante as she readjusted her seat. "No, your offer is fair. And generous." She paused, wondering if this might be the best move. Then, she continued, "Shall we be the best of frenemies, then, Rebecca?" She offered out her hand.
Rebecca was quite pleased; Clara appeared very reasonable. She would need someone reasonable working with her to tame the wayward Daeva. "We do have a hard road ahead of us, especially after how he showed up to Court. But I can see the potential in him. If he only thought a little more before speaking." A person could be as hateful or dishonest in their heart, as long as the face they presented didn't offend by showing it.
As Clara offered her hand Rebecca let out a wide smile and took it. Her Catalyst recoiled at her action but she resisted. This was the right thing to do. "Frenemies it is. I very much look forward to working with you Clara."
Once business had been taken care of Rebecca relaxed in her chair. "It would appear the next step will be setting up a meeting with Duchess Twist. Have you had many opportunities to speak with her?"
