(Budding Thorns) Pie Doesn't Lie

Once they were out of the Hedge, Sasha was relieved. She was not the type to go into it looking for anything. The Dancer had found the way back with the help of Circe and Ingrid and now the wind down of what happened. It seemed that Ingrid would be excusing herself at that point, but may or may not end up joining them at Funderland at some point.

Taking a brief pause to pick up some pie or cake, whatever the children wanted, they headed to the area full of picnic tables at Funderland. Circe seemed as eager to know what happened as Sasha did. Once they were settled, the Fairest sipped her coffee but didn't take a bite of French Silk pie yet. It was indulgent for her, and well deserved after that trip.

All the while during this entire adventure, Sasha wondered what was so special about these two kids that they were Taken to begin with. Not everything was apparent; sometimes it was just by the worst luck of the world.

Looking to Circe, the Dancer raised her brows, wondering if she had any pressing questions first.

Circe had no such random curiosities for why the children were among the Taken. Her own past told her that sheer bad luck was as big a factor as the interest of Them. Picking Their pockets was very bad luck. Circe had less qualms about getting food then did her fellow Royal. But coffee was the priority for now.

"So, kids? Just ta be sure first of all, ya got something ya like? I got keys for this whoooole place. Second, ya are both okay with talking about these fellas, right?" Circe sipped the coffee slowly. "Emily and mister green goblin? I'd like ta assure ya both straight up if either of them have tried to hurt you, well," she smiles but her red eyes are full of protective Wrath, "They will have my full ire."

Katie sits next to her brother on the picnic bench. Her legs are longer than his (so they reach the ground) but she still happily bounces in place as she prepares to dig into her pie. She'd asked for blueberry, but eventually settled on cherry - which apparently was Billy's favorite. Like a good older sister, she scoops up the first bite with a plastic fork and offers it to Billy. Her hand hovers under the fork and she grins as her brother takes a bite.

Her huge eyes lock onto Circe as she speaks, and Billy takes the opportunity to snatch away the fork and keep eating. "Thanks, blue lady. And yeah. I wanna help. We did a pretty good job finding Billy, right?" She leans in towards her brother and musses up his hair. Billy, face already smeared with red gooey filling, giggles and tries to duck away.

The young girl is quick to shake her head. "Emily wouldn't hurt us. She's nice. It was kinda our fault for sneakin into her purse and takin the weird fruit. She got mad, but she didn't tell our parents." She seizes a moment to seize back the fork and cuts herself a wedge with the fork. Just before she pops it into her mouth, she adds. "Don't know about the green guy. I think he was her boyfriend." She chews on one side of her mouth and keeps talking. "Pretty gross. He's an ugly goblin. But ever since we ate the fruit and..." A pause. A frown. "Got different... he's always been creepin around."

Billy makes a poor attempt to wipe away the stickiness around his lips with the back of his sooty hand. He only succeeds in getting his wrist gooey. Rather than answer Circe, he turns directly to his older sister. "How'd he find the hideout, Katie? He's like us? He can go to the 'other side'?"

Because NPCS!

Watching the kids go for the pie, Sasha pondered their discussion. What was strange was that, did anyone ever think something was amiss with Emily?

As they began eating, the Fairest softly spoke, but loud enough to be heard. "How long have you known Emily? What did she do to earn your trust?"

Maybe her boyfriend put her under a spell, something was off.

"Do you remember what the fruit looked like?" Looking to both of them, even if only Katie ate it.

Circe can't stop the smile at being called a blue lady, "Yer welcome." She still pays rapt attention as Katie tells her tale. Her eyebrows shoot up, red eyes wide, at the revelation that the children were not taken but changed. That is a very bad kind of Goblin Fruit right there. "I uh," she looks over at Sasha, "Don't know that kinda produce."

Most likely Billy is correct. Someone really needed to teach these kids about being Lost before they got it in the worst way. "And this Emily did her game face disappear after ya ate the fruit? Erm, that is she got un-Masked." Sighing the Blue Lady shakes her head. "How much of the club lexicon do the kids know Sasha? Like, do they even know about the game face?"

Circe winces as she has no idea what the proper slang would be for Contracts. The Summer Queen sends a flat looks over to Sera as she leans in to whisper, "Want me to show 'em if they don't know Masks? Yeah hooray they didn't go through Arcadia, but do they lack the 101? And what's the club code for Contract?"

Katie shrugs. "I dunno... maybe a year? She's just nice. Sometimes she lets us stay up a little later and watch TV."

The fish-girl pats her brother on the head. "Go play for a minute, OK? I gotta talk to the grown-ups." Her brother sticks his tongue out at her, then complies. Once Billy scampers away, Katie turns back to Sasha.

"It looked kinda like a dried up orange slice. But it was all tough and chewy." She scrunches her nose up, and leans forward to almost whisper. "It... it make me feel weird. I wish I tried it before Billy. I woulda told him not to." She averts her eyes and color rushes to her cheeks.

Huge eyes blink as the young girl consider's Circe's question. "Game... face? I guess her face did change, a little. Mostly her hair. It's like... I dunno... like we could see her like she really is. And there were all these flowers blooming around her." She smiles, in spite of the situation. "It's pretty to see it."

Mostly just threw in the Billy post to verify everything was working right with the old toolkit. Interaction in the scene will mostly be done by Katie, unless anyone directly asks Billy a question. But he's playing right now.

Sasha nodded to Circe. "Yes, that may be helpful."

The Fairest didn't like the sound of that fruit. She never did eat any Goblin fruits, or study them, so currently she couldn't offer as to what it was. "Do you remember what kind of weird? Foggy weird, or something else?" When she found someone who was knowledgeable, she'd tick these items off to them.

"That is called a Mask. Some have better ones than others. But I think Circe may want to explain that better." Since the Summer asked about it, she wouldn't steal her thunder.

Circe's eyes widen at the description of the dried fruit. "That sounds familiar. Not in a good way," she turns to Sasha and whispers, "We came back near a club that was selling Goblin Fruit like that ta get mundies stoned."

She turns back to Katie with a grin, "So it made ya field wierd and then things got Wyrd," she giggles in amusement. Katie probably wouldn't get it. At Sasha's prompting Circe nodded but kept her tone low so as not to carry, "Yes. The Mein is what ya. Blue elf," points at Sasha, "tall glowing beauty," then waves her palm at Katie, "adorable mer girl. That is our Mein, what we really like look. The game face or Mask is was what the normal people see."

The Summer Queen smiled at Katie as her ears seemed to shrink, skin and hair changing color. Glamour finished Hardening her Mask to leave an Italian blonde, "This is the Mask. We can put on the game face by using Glamour to make it stronger. It don't last but ya can use it ta make sure another Lost don't know yer one of us. Don't change the voice though does it?"

The smile fades, "And there are powers that we get. Including those for tracking people. That's how we figured out where Billy was so green boy might have somethin' like that too. Not sure if ya wanna tell Billy about that or not."
