A Wisp and a Nix

She hadn’t had anyone over to her small apartment since she got it. And it wasn’t because she was ashamed of the size, it just hadn’t been ready.

Days and evenings had been spent looking up cheap decorating tips online. With ideas that could be done for next to nothing so long. She’d dumped a lot of resources into Garden Grounds, so disposable income wasn’t her thing right now.

So weeks had ben spent finding DIY for the vision she had. Craft stores visited, Youtube videos watched and things slowly came together.

The layout was an open floorplan, except the bathroom, which had a door. Of course.

On the wall beside the door were various old keys with fairy type wings glued onto them. It didn’t signify anything to her, it just looked awesome online and she wanted it in her place.

The living room was mostly light colors, whites, light blues and pinks. Numerous suncatchers were in the windows and filled the room with many different sized dancing spots of light.

The couch was oversized and covered with some sort of fabric cover, the coffee table an old door held up by pieces of wood stained to match. On top of which were old mason jars filled with different types of flowers that you could pick up at the super market.

The bedroom was visible when you entered the apartment. The bed was a wrought iron canopy bed with white gauzy material and white lights wrapped around the four posts, emitting a warm glow.

Sera was in the kitchen area, pulling out a pan of brownies she had just made. Coffee was brewing in a coffee maker on a counter and cups were grabbed from a counter and placed beside it.

Now all she needed was a Wisp.

It wasn't often the Sera calls her up out of the blue, normally they met as the wyrd willed, only serious matters warranted calls and invitations to apartments.

So in deference to Sera's preferences the Wisp dosen't bring a bottle of vodka, but a jug of watermelon, strawberry juice. Hopefully the Nix didn't have strong - negative - feelings towards her choice.

Wearing a comfy green top with a pair of black leggings. And of course, her boots.

Which click in time with her steps as she walks up to the Nix's door. Smelling something nummy coming from inside the Wisp knocks.

Hearing the knock, she takes off the over mitts and bounces to the door.

It swings open revealing a smiling, rather casual Nix. She clearly had on her pajamas and didn’t care what time it was. They were comfy and she was wearing them.

Plus, her place her rules.

“Mhairi! Thanks for coming over.” She steps aside, motioning, “Please, come in. I just made some brownies. And no, not homemade, from a box. Hope that’s ok cause it’s the only way I can cook.” She says with a heartfelt laugh.

A laugh to cover concern. The last like one of them met the other in their pjs it was her wearing them and she'd been nursing a bottle of Smirnoff.

Stepping through the doorway Mhairi coos at the decor. "Nice," feel-flames dancing about.

Another laugh "You didn't buy them prebaked. So they're home made in my opinion," the wisp cheerfully informs the Nix.

She quickly closes the door behind the Elemental before flashing a smile.

“Thanks!” comes the angelic voice moving towards the kitchen area, “Nothing too fancy, just things I found online and do it yourself videos.” But secretly she was very proud and happy Mhairi thought it was nice.

“I see you brought something, what is it?” she asks.

“Oh! Well then, I slaved all afternoon to make them.” She says with a giggle as she picks up the plate and motions with her head to the couch.

A hand moves one of the mason jars with flowers to place the plate down.

“We need cups! One second, go ahead and have a seat.” And she bounces from the room and returns with cups. Putting them down, she folds her long legs under herself and sits on the couch, facing Mhairi. Brownie nibbled on.

“I really appreciate you coming over, how've you been?”

Mhairi blinks, sputtering motes of fire. "You got all of this done from youtube videos...?" her head shakes, "Maybe you should go into interior design."

"Juice," she says handing it over, "Hope you like it."

Stepping closer to the sweet smelling brownies, "As soon as they cool down enough I want one." said with a smile.

The wisp moves through the space before finding a seat, "I've been okay. A friend of mine moved back to town. She was here for years before I even got here Coco, a Spring,"

Mhairi bites her lips, "How are you?"

Beaming with pride at the compliment, “Interior design? Nah!” she says waving a hand, “I just found things that caught my eyes and went from there. There is really no rhyme or reason to anything, well, except the fairy lights. I really like those for some reason.” It reminded her of fireflies that she would see out her bedroom window as a kid.

“I love juice!” she pours some in a glass, offering it to Mhairi before pouring herself one. Taking a sip, her eyes widen, “Oh! Now that is good!” she says before taking another sip. A nod of her head, “Yup, going to have to keep some on hand now.”

Putting the glass down she turns to the Wisp, “Oh? Another Spring? We could certainly use more, Winter is taking over.” They seemed to be coming out of the woodwork. “I look forward to meeting her soon then.” The Springs had an event coming up, so it’d be a good time to meet new people.

There is a pause after the question, it was obvious she was debating something.

“I’m, um, not sure actually.” She wasn’t sure how to approach this.

“Do you think it’s possible to be broken in the sense that emotions are foreign to you? Like, you don’t know what they are?” she looks thoughtful once again, “Maybe I’m not explaining this right. Urgh, I just don’t know how to put it into words.” There was a pout as she takes a bite of a brownie.

A brow arches, "Hmm," she hums, "Then we must agree to disagree my friend."

A smile as the Nix pours a drink and seems to like the juice, "Sure!" said even as she follows the Fairest's movements to retrieve a glass for herself and pours some juice for herself.

A nod, followed by a hum, as she sips the juice, "We need a better balance of things," she agrees, never had she felt her paranoia grow so fast as when she realized they were a Winter Freehold, always hidden and looking over their shoulders.

"Oh!" Mhairi blinks and nods, "Uh. No you're explaining okay. It's...yeah. That makes sense. Like. Hmm." she twists her fingers, "Every single one of us was fucked over so utterly a d completely by Them that we all came back a little or a lot broken. I still can't recognize emotions on other people's faces. It takes a lot of time and effort for me to get it. So it makes sense. It really, really dose." she says softly, but seriously.

A light laugh, “Fair enough.” If she wanted to think Sera had any decorating skill, so be it.

Nodding, “Totally agree. I like things better when each Season has a fair and equal Court. Not that I foresee Winter suddenly becoming power hungry or anything.” She just didn’t like the scales tipped in ones favor.

She moves herself, now sitting cross legged on the couch, sipping her drink.

“So me not being able to identify my own emotions, internal ones, isn’t that weird then?” she knew about the Wisp not recognizing emotions on others faces.

“It’s just,” a pause, internal struggle, “is it something we can overcome?” concern in her voice, “Can we, like, identify the problem and learn to know what the emotions are? Like, how do you deal with it? Cause I have to tell you, it’s frustrating. I’ve never wanted to deal with them before, but now I kinda want to. But I don’t know how.”

Mhairi hums, and again realizes the differences between them. Or at least Autumn and Spring. "I don't either,"

She shakes her head, "No. It's not weird." she says wondering it the friendship Mhairi feels for Sera was felt by the Nix in turn. "And you can overcome it. I've...I've started to learn. I feel deeply but recognizing the same in others takes me longer then most. But I'm working on it. And I believe the reverse is true too.

"You can rebuild what's been-" she dosen't want to say 'broken' "Changed and change it back. Maybe better then what it was before. It'll just take...time. And effort. And umm the want to change." Mhairi says before reaching for her juice. "How to change it...that's. I don't know. I didn't have to work on that. So. I-maybe you need to read some self-help books and psychology books. I'd say go see someone, but ..." she trails off, "Sorry I can't help more,"
