The lettering on the last word in the notebook was rough. The lead pressed too deep into the paper. The angles harsher than those above, a red flag of frustration and disappointment.

A visual reminder of what it cost to not practice. Athletes were on to something with their motivational quotes about it.

It wasn't the first notation of 'failure' under the Results tab in the notebook. And it would not be the last. But this one wasfelt personal. The gap between the dates was the longest it had been, the desire had been so strong.

It was the candle. It was her. It didn't matter.

Extra caution to turn the page, pencil held in a forced loose grip to make the handwritting legible and not scream of frustration. Failure did not mean failure.

Candle was re-lit. Breathing was measured. The process began again.

And this time it was not failure that was written under the Results tab.
