Cross Calls the Reeve

[Robert Cross]

Cross has waited long enough.

Business is business. And the Burned Man and the Reeve? Well, they've got business. At least the way Cross sees it. Even if it's as simple as letting her know he's back in town.

Somehow, though, he doubts it'll be that easy.

So, Cross finds Alessandra's number from back when they'd served together as deputies and dials it, waiting for someone to pick up.

*Ring Ring*

[Alessandra]

The phone only rings a few times before being answered,

"Ciao?" asks a woman.

[Robert Cross]

Cross is pretty sure he's reached the Italian, but he's not making any assumptions.

"Evening. Miss Antinori? It's Robert Cross."

Let her identify herself and he'll go from there.

[Alessandra]

She knew this night would come, where one of them would reach out to the other and talk.

"Mr Cross, good evening. What can I do for you tonight?"

[Robert Cross]

"Not sure if you've heard, but I'm back in town." Cross knows that Ale and Alice are in a coterie. But he's not aware how tight-lipped the Blind Doll has been about his return. "And I heard about your promotion. Congratulations." He means it, even if it is fraught territory. After all, she's taken the position he abandoned. "Figured we should sit down, talk about some things, if you've got some time."

[Alessandra]

So he came back, interesting.

"Well, I have some time this evening if you're free. We can meet in my office." her big question, what did he want? Did he think coming back meant he could resume his old position? Or did he genuinely want to talk? She guesses the night will tell.

[Robert Cross]

"Very good," the Burned Man replies. "Thank you for making time to meet with me." All perfectly polite. Correct. "I'll be by shortly."
