(Plot) The Masquerade

Teeth bared in a predator's smile, Coco synced her own movements with the Hunter's trajectory, bopping along with the music as she moved into position. Unwittingly, the Hunter's had just made her job easier. With one Hunter acting as bait, he removed himself from the list of viable threats, thus leaving Coco with only one target to disarm at a time. And, given that the Draculina was likely to wise up once Coco'd foiled the Hunter's plans, protecting her was about to become far, far easier.

Such thoughts in mind, Coco set herself up only a few feet from the Hunter lying in wait, prop sword resting vertically against her shoulder, ready and in hand for when it was needed. For, as soon as the Hunter moved forward to strike, Coco would intercept his striker with her own...

Coco is readying a disarm attack against the hunter lying in wait, for when he attacks the lady in the vampire costume.

The Red Queen's finger was still pointed balefully at Tally's face, which made it easy enough for the woman to duck in close enough to grab the hatchet hanging at her belt. The Red Queen snarled and reached out after it; before stumbling on the hem of her dress and falling to her knees.

"What?" The former Red Queen looked around, eyes dazed and confused. "What's going on?" She pushed both hands to her forehead. "Where . . . what happened?"

The two on the dance floor circled for a bit, drawing ever closer to where the second hunter waited. Coco could practically feel it as the lurker readied himself, fingering something beneath his coat. The Hunter swung the vampire around, pulling both hands up and between them; a casual move if not for the fact that it now trapped the woman in place. Behind her, the hunter stepped out, cruelly sharpened stake held low and ready for an upward thrust . . .

Disarm attempt will be the same as before; Dex+Brawl/Melee and need three successes to be . . . well. Successful. My apologies, I missed that Coco had readied her action.

A thrust that only slightly mussed as it plunged towards the Draculina's back.

Coco looked on in horror as she realized her failure, and the price of her arrogance. It did not matter that she'd put her all into the attack, the unfamiliar weapon, no matter how well crafted it seemed, was too awkward to have been relied upon. And yet...something about the blade told her that it's potential was yet unused...Perhaps she'd have to test that upon the blade's maker, once the bastard was found.

The woman let out a shriek as the stake connected, falling forwards and tripping over her gown. The vampire hunter holding her hands was unable to compensate for the weight and stumbled as well, falling to one knee as she sprawled across him. And the vampire hunter behind her . . . looked in puzzlement at the stake held in his hand; which now bore a badly crooked tip. It's clear to Coco's eyes that however real it looked, it was still a prop, the same as the sword she held in her hand. With an vile oath, he shoved the stake into one pocket, starting to frantically rummage through his coat in search of another weapon.

Damnation! Not only had Coco failed, but it appeared that her earlier theory about the weapons was not entirely correct. She assumed that as soon as the unsuspecting humans lost contact with their token that the faery magic would fade, but clearly she had made a misguided guess as to the terms of the catch. Hadn't the Red Queen's hatchet been in her belt, after all? Yes, yes, that must be it. As long as the prop was a part of the costume the Catch must be met, allowing the token's magic to work.

Hopefully this fool had been cheap enough to only buy one prop. Coco still had his friend to deal with, after all...

Thus, sword forgotten in her grip, Coco dashed forward, her hand darting into the would-be Hunter's pocket to snatch his stake away.

The nimble fingers of the Wasp easily pulled the fake stake from the pocket of the would be hunter, leaving him to the now familiar reaction of falling to his knees in a daze; staring about as if he had no idea where he was or how he got there. Unfortunately, this left the second hunter still lost in the delusions cast by the stake that he held. And now he'd seen Coco attack his fellow hunter and drop him to his knees.

With a snarl, he shoved the girl to one side and lunged at the Wasp, face twisted in rage.

"You'll be fine. Just go get something to drink or to eat." Tally does her best to reassure the woman in a distracted manner. Her eyes then go to the hatchet and, gingerly, she picks up the hatchet with a frown.

Without trying anything with it, she glances around the crowd nearest her before looking for Coco. She begins to head to where Coco is.

Ha! The fool! Attempting to lay a hand on her? He would have better luck tap dancing on a pillow!

Cosima Tascioni was a fencer! A master of lines, of transcending her opponent's trajectory, of intercepting a sliver of steel less than a centimeter wide and moving it off course. To dodge an object the size of a man was nothing compared to that! His brute force could not match her lithesome expertise.

The man grunted as his knees hit the floor, snarling out a vicious curse. His hands hit the floor as his head swung around; previous target forgotten as all his attention focused on Coco. One hand slapped at his boot, pulling out a small dagger that he'd hidden there.

Cayce , Coco has the drop on him since he's on the ground and trying to get up.
