Set on a backstreet corner in the downtown area of Sacramento, the place had obviously fallen on hard times. Miach arrived late at night, and from the outside of the building, he could see that there were a few dim lights on inside.

Also easily visible from the quiet, safe spot where Miach observed the location, he could see that there was a driveway leading behind the building, and some sort of garage. Maybe that was where the vans were parked?

It's presently midnight. Please narrate any preparation or spells casted, Bigpaw .

Even though he knew better, Miach couldn't help but investigating after the attempted abduction he had nearly fallen prey to. He really should have left it to Arrows, but he had so little to start with... Double-checking that his safe spot was indeed safe, he weighed his options.

Looking at the forlorn shop, Miach wondered whether it was truly the right address. It seemed that yes, it was indeed correct. Okay... the only thing he really needed was a confirmation. In. Check. Out. Call for help. It should be no problem, right ? If only the Fates could be on his side tonight. Well, perhaps they could...

Carefully checking that he was unseen and unheard, the Acanthus prepared himself, hoping he would survive the night, and help someone survive it too...

Once his preparation were over, a fly left the slightly slid open window toward the driveway...

Here are true facts about the housefly.

The housefly is a strange creature, with honeycomb eyes and rapidly beating little wings. It's weird being a housefly for a housefly. It's twice or three times as weird for Miach, whose little wings rapidly beat, vibrating his miniscule little body as he flew toward the driveway and left his car behind. The street was gigantic beneath him. A car flew past, nearly introducing him to its windshield.

Hopefully, nobody inside had a fly swatter. What an inglorious way to die.

The Acanthus made his way around to the driveway, and his tiny form actually gave him a couple of options. There was a window that was open just a crack. Just a crack, barred from the inside, but no problem for a fly. That would get him into the main office.

There was also a vent just above the garage door. He could hear whirring and feel a pleasant warmth from within, the heater having been left on overnight.

If meeting Banishers had felt ominously dangerous, merely flying across a street felt ridiculously dangerous. If flies could sigh, that particular one would have heaved a sigh of relief to be heard across all Sacramento. And it was just the beginning.

Faced between two options that could as easily lead to potential disaster, Miach/Fly wondered if he'd be good. What he needed to know would probably be in the office. Crack it was, then. GLO, no. Crack, yes.

Instead of a sigh, all Miach's little fly body managed to heave was the tiny annoying sound that flies make. No surprise, there, really. It was one of those things that came with the territory of Shapeshifting - a Mage who changed into a creature of the urban wild really was that creature, both in its useful ways and its not-so-useful ones.

The lights were on in the office, and through the crack he went. It was a minimally appointed affair, the kind of office a small business that was doing okay for itself had. A desk, with papers scattered on it semi-chaotically. A computer that was on. A chair that looked like a seriously fat ass had abused it one too many times over the years.

A seriously fat-ass dude sitting in it, writing something down on a notepad.

A wastebasket, next to the desk, with the remains of a three-day-old cheeseburger in it - stinky to a man, but to Miach's fly senses? It smelled like mana from heaven. Fly and man warred within the shapechanged Awakened. Would he eat it?

Please roll Resolve+Composure to avoid giving in to the instinct of the fly to go eat that delicious mold-burger.

Despite the temptation of fly-ish epicureanism, Miach's resolve prevailed. The fly made a slow survey of the office's content, and the man inside decided that at this hour, the most interesting thing in the office was probably being written upon a notepad. Trying to find a good spot of observation, the fly and the man tried to read the man's note.

There would still be time for a more filling reward afterwards.

Miach flies in. Subtlety is not a fly's strong suit - people don't like them, but they also don't bust out the flyswatter on the first go. He makes a flight in, hovering as best as he can to read the note. He sees it - it's a memorandum about shipping appliances to a house somewhere...

His wings sense a shift in the air in the room as the fella's hand begins to come up to take a lazy swat at him --

...and the hand, miraculously, struck him, sending Miach flying into the wall and tumbling to the desk surface behind the monitor. His tiny body battered, unconsciousness pressed in, the darkness encroaching on the edges of the fly's compound vision. He had been lucky. That sort of hit up against a hard surface?

The Mystagogue would have been Acanthus paste.

Shaken by the event, Miach still found the reserve of will to remain awake. With any luck, the man would consider himself rid of the annoying pest. Better safe than sorry, though, and the Acanthus decided to give the man the wider possible berth and flew to the ceiling taking the farthest course from the man.
