The Knight made sure he was out of sight of the office before pocketing ten of the hundies the fat Ventrue had delivered, a little self-satisfied smirk crossing his face in that private moment. Others could chip in on the costs of the operation.
He sacrificed his body and his soul for the First Estate.
Was it too much to ask for a little bonus? God only knew Harold Thorne would never lift a finger in a fight, no matter how hard he trained. That was the purview of people like Yuki Saito and him. It was hard, it was brutal; the underside of the First Estate that few would truly understand.
And that underside liked expensive things.
Returning to the office, the Knight placed the case on the countertop silently.
"Five thousand dollars, as promised. Would you like to count it?"
His fingers found the countertop, waiting.
