"No. There's a dead man in here." Kristen's voice came over, tense and quiet.
"He has a gun. Did Ken tell you where he stashed Cassandra? "

Kristen's voice was calm when she delivered the news that someone was dead and all was in peril. Calm. Eerily calm.

"You want to back us up, here. We could use it."

Helene paused for a moment. Kristen's nonchalance gave her the chills. She thought for a moment about just calling the police and bailing, and letting the whole thing just blow over. Then she remembered that there was something in there, something not-human. It bothered her that she didn't know exactly what it was. It itched at the back of her brain.

"I'll, uh, be right in. Cassandra should be in the master bedroom, I think." She clips the radio to her belt and, with the Ipad in one hand and her and Kristen's phone in one pocket, she jogs around back to try and get in through the back door, since the rest of the building is locked down.

Helene enters the kitchen through the door, noting that there are large gorges in the wood by the door jamb. The door was obviously forced open.

In the family room there is the dead body a man.
The body lies in the middle of the room, the pool of blood around its head ruining the ivory-colored carpet. It is a man wearing a dark suit. He looks to be in his thirties and he’s a little pudgy around the jowls. There’s no mystery about how he died – a bullet wound in his forehead above his right eye and a corresponding exit wound in the back of his skull. Near his right hand lies a hunting knife.

He didn’t get the chance to use it.

There is no sign of Kristen, Cassandra or the other two men - one working with Kristen and yourself; one of the competition. You realize that Kristen has not replied to your radio transmission.

There appears to be no one in the downstairs. The upstairs is chaotic mess of overturned books and a wooden book shelf that has been knocked down. You can't see any living soul.

Helene slowly sneaks in and moves carefully through the house, being very careful not to touch anything so her fingerprints aren't all over a murder scene. She gingerly reaches over the corpse and picks up the knife, weighing it and holding it carefully in one hand. Not the most practical of weapons for her, but hey. A weapon's a weapon.

She moves to go to the top floor, carefully making her way over the bookcase at the top of the stairs, praying that wood doesn't hold fingerprints well. She walks over to the door to the master bedroom, if she remembers correctly from the diagram, and tries to push it open lightly with her fist.

It's a war zone. A bloody hand print is smeared across the bed room door that Helene approaches. She can hear some sort of grumbling, grunting noise from inside. As she pushed the door open, she sees two men scrabbling together on the floor. One is bleeding profusely from the mouth. The other is gasping for breath as his throat is being cinched in a tight wrestling hold. Kristen stands with her back to Helene and she's attempting to aid the man whose grasping the man's neck. You see that Kristen is having magnificent luck, but clutched in the 'not Kristen's team' man's hand is a pistol.

No one seems to notice Helene. No one except the pregnant woman. Huddled in a corner of the bed room is a woman. She is in her late twenties, and she is clearly terrified. Sweaty strands of blonde hair cling to her face. She is wearing a pair of ill-fitting sweatpants and an old football shirt that cannot hide her swollen belly. She is heavily pregnant, and by the looks of it she’s going to give birth very soon. She holds a revolver in one hand and the receiver from a cordless phone in the other. She looks up as Helene looks into the bed room, her eyes wide with fear, and she aims the gun, ready to kill again.

Helene takes one look at the pregnant woman with the gun and turns right around and walks out of her sight again. She briefly considers just saying "Nope!" and running down the stairs, taking the van, and driving home, but then decides against it. Dammit, she wanted those 36 dollars! She takes a deep breath and says, in a very loud voice: "Don't shoot me! I'm here to help!" into the room, hoping she doesn't get someone killed. Or worse, get herself killed.

"Cassandra, don't. I called Helene. Helene is here to help."

Kristen's words were transmitted over Helene's radio. There's a soothing tone in Kristen's voice. "Cassandra needs help, Helene. She needs medical attention."

Helene can't determine what is going on in the room from where she stands, out of Cassandra's sight. She knows that there are two guns in that room, and one is in the grasp of some stranger that both of Helene's associates seem to be trying to subdue.

It takes Helene a moment to decide to go back in. After all, the guns in the house are all in the room, being wielded by people who are pretty likely to fire them off randomly. She takes a deep breath and steps back in, edging along the wall to get to Cassandra, then kneels next to her, glancing occasionally at the scuffle to make sure she wasn't about to get shot. Still nervous and wanting to leave very quickly, she turns back to Cassandra to give her a look-see for any injuries.

The wrestling match is just as brutal and intense as it has been before, perhaps more so. The gun teeters towards Kristen and then is muscled towards the ceiling. The man is showing tremendous strength. Neither Kristen's partner nor Kristen can spare a moment to speak to Helene. Sweat drips down Kristen's brown and dark patches are appearing under her arms and on the back of that fancy business suit.

As Helene looks to Cassandra, she can't see any injuries. Cassandra lowers the gun, resting it on her knee so that it points at the ground. The woman is pale and sweating. You notice that she's breathing very quickly. As you watch, she inhales sharply and clutches her rotund pregnant belly. Contractions? Fetal distress?

"Phone doesn't work." Cassandra grunts. "Are there any others? I... I... shot one downstairs. He said he was taking the baby... and I..." She trails off, looking distressed and pained.

Helene puts down her knife, starting to sweat too. "Uh, I didn't see anyone. But, uh, lie still and...breathe? Do you feel like you're contracting? Did your water break or whatever?" As she talks, she reaches to take the gun out of the woman's hand, and, if Cassandra doesn't resist, she puts it down next to the knife.
