    Well, that's different.

He looked down at the address he'd written down, and back up at the... cathedral. He wasn't sure what the textbook definition of cathedral was, but it sounded appropriate. Because it was too small to be 'just' a church. Like a meal. You didn't call a nine course dinner 'supper'. You called it a feast, or a banquet, or... a nine course dinner.

If someone had asked before he had arrived, he would have told them it was probably an office building. Maybe a warehouse. Even someone's home.

    Not a cathedral.

He kind of liked it. It said... something. Like, bam, bitches. Here we are. This is how we roll. Fear this.

He kind of thought it was dumb as hell.

Shoes crunched on the steps as he made his way to the doors, and he took his sunglasses off. He wasn't sure how one entered a cathedral. Pound on the door? Stand outside yelling until a spyhole popped open? Just walk in?

With a sigh, he turned around, slipped his backpack off of his shoulder, and sat down on the top most step. Someone would show up, eventually. He opened his eyes*, to make sure he saw them. A pen spun over and through his fingers and around his thumb. He'd prefer to work a deck of cards, but being caught chasing cards caught by the wind wasn't the first impression he wanted to make.

Side note? Hopefully this would not be the day Banishers did a drive-by.

Avis opened the door to the Circle and stepped outside, dressed in her sparkly new tennis shoes, sweat pants, and a hoody with the sleeves cut off, ready to run to the store. Like literally run there. She'd already done an hour of yoga so now she needed some cardio to even things out. She also needed groceries, so why not combine the two? Or that was her logic before she saw the man on the steps of the Circle of Creation. She stopped and just kind of stared at the man, surprised, and wishing she'd showered.

"Uh. Hey," she said, tentatively walking forward. "Can I help you?" She fought not to cross her arms and instead stuffed her hands into the pockets of her hoody. A tracery of old, silvery scars ran up her arms, mimicking the form of subtle patterns carved into her flesh.

He was standing and turning when he heard the door open and heard the foot steps. It was a little inconvenient, not sitting where he was facing the door, but, stuff. If that Banisher-drive by had happened, he'd wanted a running start.

Are those runes? I hope those are runes.

His eyes had focused on her arms for a moment when she'd shoved her hands in her pockets. The pen continued to spin around his fingers as he searched for a reply. He'd had a bunch practiced. Maybe a dozen. Most of them were crafted for some old fogey in a suit reliving their Cold War glory days.

    "Hey. Hi."

His head ducked band bobbed, trying to see under the hood.

"I'm looking for some friends? I'm just in from out west of Denver. Vail, to be exact."

Now that, he'd practiced. He was probably more pleased with it than he should be.

    Asp

Asp had one earpiece in as she jogged toward the Circle of Creation (playing Yeah, when I walk on by, girls be lookin' like damn he fly), her backpack strapped to her back and a pair of aviators shading her eyes as she ran in the heat of the May sun. Ever the athlete, she sprayed some water down her gullet as she came in for the final stretch up the street toward the massive cathedral that made up the headquarters of the local Adamantine Arrow and Guardians of the Veil.

The last block or so, she took at a full-on sprint, leaning forward slightly as she ran in that aerodynamic way a professional would. Cut down on wind resistance and all that. It worked for her. As she ran it in, she noticed the dull woman who had stood sentry at the door on the day she arrived, and some fellow she had not yet met.

Her Sight traced over them both, looking for signs of magic on either as she came to a stutter-step and stopped. "Hey," she said between gasps for air. It had been a hard run in. She'd talk more in a minute. Catching her breath was a bit of a priority.

I'm sexy and I know it.

She shut her iPod off. Her running playlist could wait.

If her messenger bag has been mentioned, Zoey is carrying an old leatherbound journal, two bottles of gatorade and a waterbottle, a change of clothing, a second small pistol, a couple of snacks and a variety of miscellaneous objects. Don't question a woman's purse.

Finding parking had been the main goal. Find parking, find the address and find the people she needed to talk to. Really, that was all she had to do. Report in and get out. She rubbed lightly at her arm, sighing a bit as she got out of the little pontiac sunfire, pulling a small messenger bag over her shoulder and making her way towards the front steps. Upon seeing so many people, however, Mandy found herself pausing. All she had that she wanted to do right now was go in, meet with her local leaders and get some manner of approval to function in the area on even a short term.

Shaking her head, the brunette stepped towards the staircase, looking at each person briefly before giving the smallest of smiles. "... Good afternoon," she greeted quietly, looking again to each of them as though confused for the briefest of moments. "Are the doors currently locked?" That would most certainly be unfortunate. She wasn't altogether certain she wanted to deal with people for longer than required, especially when she hardly knew them. And with these particular ones, she definitely knew none of them. She wasn't sure she cared to.

Vail. Vaaale. Oh! Right. Veil. That's right, the guardians liked their codes. 'Course, Avis also had a healthy appreciation for caution. Hence her lack of ipod. Nothing was better than having some driving beats and powerful vocals to help inspire you to push past your weakness but, more importantly, ipods also distracted you. Two ton vehicles driven by mobs of idiots were dangerous enough but the city was also host to Banishers, and probably other things that might want her dead, so distractions were a bad idea.

It looked like Asp didn't agree. And then there was this other woman who came walking up, trying to get inside. Avis had no idea who the hell she was. Of course, she had no idea who the hell made up most of the Consilium, so this was problematic. At least the man had identified himself as new, and an ally. Unless, ya know, he was lying. Well, what the fuck. She was a Talon. And now she had backup.

"Hey Asp," Avis called, reaching up to pull her hood off and brush a loose strand of hair out of her face. "We've got some new blood here. You mind helping me, uh, welcome them?" It would probably be rude to say 'vet them' out loud, but that was implied.

"Your friends from Vail, Colorado, own part of the building so you're in the right place. Not sure if any of them are around though,"
she told the man and then acknowledged the woman as well. "You uh, both want to step inside? Might be more comfortable to introduce ourselves out of the heat." She opened the door so they could walk in.

When Asp showed up, he resisted the urge to suggest they all just exchange numbers and text. Because Hey. They'd all three done it. The whole sweat and tennis shoes thing on the second girl? They both had the tennis shoes. So running was A Thing. Made you wonder if the Girl Scouts were offering an Adamantine badge these days.

    He didn't object.

He might have, when Ozymandias showed up. Two was coincidence -- a third just begged Ashton Kutcher to pop out and yell Punk'd. The last time he'd been alone with three women had involved some faulty wiring in a nursing home's intercom system. ...and he wasn't sure if that were entirely accurate: the nurse who'd been yelling at him probably had more testosterone than he did. At least, if size were any indication, she'd have to.

His eyes made a slow circuit across the sky as he searched for something witty to say. Witty. Because females.

Oh, hey, Hoodie that escaped Jack the Ripper talks. Asp. God, he hoped that wasn't some sort of eponymous Thyrsus thing.

    shit

There it went. He'd mentally swapped out sweaty jogger girl with a big ass snake. Total Stay-Puft moment.

    "Great, sure. Inside is good."

A hand popped up in a wave all around.

"I'm, ummm, Cut. Like, cards. It was Shuffle, but sometimes people thought I'd said Shovel, so that was awkward. Who's a garden tool? What kind of sense would that make? So I changed it. That's just a working name, though. I haven't decided. The whole 'superhero name' is harder than you think."

Wow. Just. Fucking. Wow. At some point, his brain decided to go with verbal diarrhea instead of witty.

Asp nodded to Avis's request, her head swiveling to take in both newcomers. "Absolutely," she said, her breathing slowing down to a more normal pace as she pulled the one earbud out of her ear and wrapped it up for storage. She smiled at both unfamiliar individuals good-naturedly, her Supernal senses taking in the spells all over the new woman and the lack thereof on the man. "Welcome to Sacramento," she said to the pair as she motioned to the door to allow the new(er) arrivals to enter first behind Avis. It was just polite.

Plus, she sort of liked the sun.

Cut's manner was amusing. Likeable. She smiled at the little bit of awkwardness and finished up her water. "You like cards, eh? Cut's good. Nice to meet you. I'm Asp." Two Shadow names relating to cards seemed to suggest an affinity. She had noted the 'Vail, Colorado' thing. Clever. Her head swiveled to face the other woman, and she offered a shake to Ozy, a quick flick of her eyes checking out the woman's outfit in that reflexive sort of way women did.

She removed her aviators, sliding them up into her hair. It made her look more personable, she figured. "Welcome. What's your name?"

The attire she wore kept her more than comfortable outside, though the jeans were making her feel a little warmer than she'd like, but as she quietly observed the others the indication that they head inside left her to smile a little and give a curt nod before heading in, adjusting her bag on her shoulder. Vail, Colorado? Interesting choice. "Vail is a lovely place, have you been there? In the winter it's absolutely beautiful. Charming architecture," she mused, looking around a bit as she stepped into the building.

The architecture of any church was of fascination - of course, she enjoyed more the churches that she'd seen in Europe and the temples in South America a fair bit more, but it wasn't hard to see where certain architectural influences came from, and the puzzle of this one was playing merrily in her mind as she looked around before seeming to realize others were speaking. She still had no idea who these people - though clearly mages - were, and was hardly about to indulge her full shadow name to them, so she simply took mental note of "Cut" and "Asp", making much the same connection between Cut and Shuffle as the younger woman had.

"Mandy," she offered with a small smile. "It's a pleasure."

Avis came in on the heels of the Mandy, closing the door behind her. She stuffed her hands back into her pockets and leaned back against the door.

"Welcome to the Circle of Creation. Home of the Guardians and the Talons. I'm Avis. Nice to meet'cha," she said, nodding to Mandy and Cut. "So do you folks plan on moving here or are you just passing through?"
