Reporting on a Cop

Stefan returned from the park. His walk on the way back had lead to him mulling things over, reassessing everything that the pup had done while they'd been alone. The edict of Golden Bear lingered in his mind - 'Judge slowly, but be implacable in your judgement'. Endurance and patience were something that resounded very well with the Storm Lord.

The question wasn't exactly if James was perfect Seeker material, because the odds of any wolf showing up at the Tur, a stranger to the city and the lands, and finding themselves fitting in perfectly were fairly minimal. What the Cahalith was concerned about was promise.

He headed back into the closed restaurant, scanning around for his packmates.

    Time to talk.

Sally made her way down the back steps, that came from the apartment above Gypsy's to the kitchen, and through that the resturaunt. As she did she saw that Stefan had made his way back. "Hey Stefan, how did it go?" The pleasent smile on the face of the Ithaeur was warm and receptive.

Alejandra was not the best reader of people; never had been and, she assumed, probably never would be. The main things that the Irraka needed to understand about a person was usually: were they friend or foe? The question tended to resolve quite quickly in her experience, depending on whether a fight ensued.

Beyond that, Alejandra did not necessarily need to glean the inner meanings of someone's body language. But this time, as she strode across to where Stefan awaited the pack, the young woman made a concerted effort to read the Cahalith. The question as to whether or not James had done well enough to secure his place with the Seekers, lingered on her face.

Her dark brown eyes flickered across Stefan as she tried to make her determination. Usually she might not have cared overmuch about the feelings of someone else, but in regards to her pack it truly mattered.

Matthew found he didn't share his packmates' burning need to learn the answers. He trusted Stefan's judgement, certainly. But it ran deeper than that. He thought of James, and still saw a pup. The man would either catch on to their ways, or fall by the wayside. At this moment, it didn't seem to matter which.

Somewhere, deep inside, that detachment scared him. There had been another who had been willing to shove aside the weak while focusing on grander objectives.

Brushing the thought aside, he simply waits. Silently giving his pack-brother the first word.

Stefan's expression was fixed and serious, but his packmates know him well enough to see that he's frustrated, even if he's keeping himself carefully composed. After all, he is a Storm Lord. It's just something in the cast of those intense eyes, and the set of his mouth.

"Well, he's more of a pup than he wants other people to believe," the Storm Lord said quietly. "He's... trainable, I'm not going to deny that part, but he needs to learn his limitations first." He sat down on the edge of one of the tables.

"We ran into a couple of Urged in the park. He broke cover, chased 'em down... barely caught up to one and went straight for the kill. I'm all for hunting out Ridden, but these weren't aggressive. They were hiding. When I spoke with them, they told me they'd been expelled from their home by a Clenched Fist. Weather Spirits," the Cahalith took a breath. "If we take him on, he's going to need to understand his mistakes. I have... misgivings about him. But it's possible it's his youth."

"Stefan, in your honest opinion." Sally had no idea why she added honest in their. Because its Stefan, and he always honest, "Do you think he would have any better luck with another pack? Or if we turn him away, will he be left to fend for himself?" Sally asked this question with a serious look in her eyes. She remembered what it was like, being alone in the world. And she remembered what it was like when Gwen helped her, and Matthew took her in...

"Clenched fist." The normally stoic Cahalith breaks into a snarl, rage blazing behind his eyes. Flashes of the desolate land, the defiled Tur. "Not here. Not on our turf."

A short pause, as he slowly reels himself in. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't, ... the pup first. Then we can deal with what this new threat means."

"The Crusaders would chew him up and spit him out, and the Sworn don't have the resources to help a pup settle right now," Shieldbearer said bluntly. "They're barely seeming to hold themselves together at the moment. But I wouldn't want to call him a full member of the pack, because I don't trust him to watch my back yet. If we're willing to put the work in to teach him, we could give him a sort of trial run, but that's the most I'd offer. I don't think he's a complete lost cause." At Matthew's reaction, the Storm Lord frowned slightly, concern flickering obviously across his face.

"I think it's been here for some time, Firebringer,"
Stefan said quietly, his storm grey eyes meeting his Alpha's. "Not necessarily in our territory, but I know the Crusaders left a note at the Tur recently. Connected to that Casino in South Sacramento that opened a while back, Chaplain said. It seems a fair bet that it's the same thing. Same MO, too - pushing local spirits aside."

They had wanted honesty, and Stefan never had seemed like the sort to hold back in his opinion, which Alejandra was grateful for. But sometimes the truth was not the best of nicest thing to hear. The Irraka would never be against teaching a new pup the ropes - they had all been there, once and likely would not be here now if not for those early, helpful beginnings. She was also aware that teaching someone else was not her thing. She was too blunt and too apathetic; although she was learning again since joining the Seekers.

It was fortunate then for Frank James that the rest of the pack had a better approach to teaching than she did. But even so, what Stefan said was not the best review anyone was going to hear and Alejandra grimaced a little in response.

The expression quickly drew back into a frown at the mention of Clenched Fist, and concern overrode any other thoughts on their new recruit.

"Let us focus on the first problem. Frank James. We have have heard Stefan's reservations, and I can understand his points, all of them valid. But I cannot in good conscience send him away. But if you feel that he is too much of a risk, then I will not ask you all to take that risk." Sally looks to members of her family and waits to hear what they have to say.
