The longest night of the year. The temperatures in Sacrametno began to drop even further, as Northern California was hit by a wave of cold wins. The trees in Sacramento have shed their leaves, and the weather man on the TV told people to brace themselves for a cold Winter. As its natural, the time for one Monarch to step down and pass the Freehold's crown to the next has arrived. As Autumn's term comes to an end, a new one begins...tonight.

Once guests enter the Four Seasons, they are greeted by the Wizened who manages the hotel. Mr. Bates leads those who have arrived through the halls of the hotel, guiding them through a maze of hallways until they finally arrive at the Throne Room.

The place still has the touch of Autumn, with piles of leaves beneath the trees around the Hollow. There are a few scattered pumpkins still lying around the place. However, the temperature has dropped a few degrees inside, and there's a hearth burning in one of the corners of the room.

As usual, there is a long wooden table with several chafing dishes and trays on it, laying off to one corner of the room. There are a variety of dishes to choose from. A rather large fruit cake sits at the end, and next to it there's two large pitchers. One is labeled "Eggnog" and the other "Hot Chocolate."

The hotel's staff is already congregating around the room, making sure everything is ready for the event. The Spring Queen, who also happens to be the chef of the hotel's restaurant "Fresh Tastes," is laying out a few more dishes on the buffet table, whistling a christmas tune while she works on making everything perfect for the evening.

Big Swilla is standing by the door, greeting people as they come in. He glances over at the buffet a few times, focusing on a large ham and the roasted bird on the middle of the table. Duncan is standing close by to Swilla, making some small talk with him. As usual Sam, the ensorcelled bartender, is standing behind the bar watching the Lost of Sacramento pile into the room.

The Winter Queen is not currently present, but that is to be expected. After all, the Fairest does have a tendency of showing up a little later.

Welcome to this year's Winter Coronation! As usual, break up into side threads and label them appropriately (i.e. [Winter Coronation '12]). This thread will remain open for a month, closing on January 23, 2013. It will be open to new arrivals for 2 weeks. But above all else, have fun!

Rook was in the throne room very promptly, but there was no excuse for being late, considering that he lived in the Hotel. He was dressed in his usual suit, but he had made a concession to the season by wearing an ice blue tie. It looked considerably nicer than the one Rook usually wore, and it was fairly easy to establish that there was probably interference from a certain Purple Dragon in this case.

The Metalflesh's sunglasses turned as he scanned the room, shuttered irises whirring. The Board was quiet inside his head, so far recognising every single individual there. Mrs. Rosemary's humming brought a little half-smile to his face, and not for the first time, Rook rather wished that the piano was in the Throne room. He was in a shockingly festive mood, and he could feel the thread of music threading through his perception of the others.

Every person had a rhythm. He taught himself to cue to their emotions by watching theirs.

The fruitcake caught his attention. Like all of Mrs. Rosemary's creations, it looked fascinating, but for some reason, his memory was being jogged, and he couldn't stop thinking of the only real Freehold he'd known before Sacramento. Had he seen fruit like that there? He was almost certain that he had.

That was an odd thought. Fruitcake wasn't the first thing he thought of when it came to Chicago.

His blazing, white-hot mantle was entirely seasonally inappropriate, rolling around him as his blazing heart glowed with the season, and the memories of family that it brought to him. And the fact that this time, he was looking forwards to Christmas. He actually had someone to share it with.

Home is where the heart is, so I'm always home, here.

Erik felt incredibly welcome at the Four Seasons, not half of that from the fact that the Sanctuary was a large hotel. There was something about people working to fulfill your whims and provide comfort that was very Spring, but then this was Court and it was now Winter, at least by the calendar. He had not yet met a lot of winter sworn and had no idea if anyone yet wore the bleak Crown of Winter, but he would soon find out as well as swear to the freehold. He had no qualms about that; otherwise he probably would not be welcome.

A mountain of a man, but not a real mountain, was watching the door. The whiff of cinnamon and cloves was inviting and drew him closer even as the bouncers mien held him at bay.

...don't want to get a closer look of those teeth

“Hello,” Erik spoke up “Im here for the coronation, and some of that good food I can smell”

Lightner gave a small laugh meant to break the tension, and snuck his head around to see the dιcor of the room.

Anya entered the slightly festively arranged room several minutes after Rook, having taken slightly longer to get ready. It had been some time since she had lived in the same space as another person - Durance not included - and she had quite forgotten that the other person might be a lot faster at getting prepared for important occasions.

But she was not late, and that was the important thing.

Her Mantle burned fiercely, blazing and bright and quite in contrast with the winter feel to the throne room. It meshed quite perfectly with the more powerful summer Mantle of Rook's however; and together they might have seemed a beacon. As a concession to the passing of the season into winter however, her dress reflected the same ice blue as Rook's tie.

It had been the only input she allowed herself on his part, considering Rook was quite capable of looking snappy in a suit all by himself.

She paused at his side to survey the room, and her lizard eyes passed across the buffet. It had been some time since she had tasted eggnog, and the Fairest had quite forgotten whether or not she actually enjoyed the taste. It would be a mission for later on in the day.

"Getting in the mood for Christmas?" she remarked softly to the Metalflesh. It was still early yet and, at least for the moment, there did not appear to be anyone needing their assistance. There was time for a casual conversation.

It had taken about an hour for Vincent to actually set foot inside The Four Seasons. He had located the hotel quite easily, however upon reaching the unfamiliar building the pressing need to circle it and the immediate surrounding area, in order to map it out had struck him as incredibly important. One never knew when a quick exit would be necessary, and the winter courtier did not like to be caught unawares.

He moved into the throne room a few minutes after getting into the building and, as was becoming more and more customary the longer he remained in Sacramento, he scanned as much as possible to file it away for later. The sight of the throne room itself though, made him pause. It would be the first time in several months that he was at the heart of a Freehold; in a place where all the Lost of Sacramento would gather and talk, and ask questions and unleash their curiosity.

Vincent could not plan for other people's actions and reactions and, though that knowledge was unsettling, he thrust it aside and strode more deeply into the room. If he walked into a new situation with the automatic assumption that something might go dreadfully wrong then...

Well, people would think he was odd, at best and outright insane, at worst.

He wanted to put over a good impression, and so Vincent forced him mind to recall the few pleasant Lost that he had met already. Unfortunately they did not appear to be there just yet. That meant approaching someone new, instead of standing around looking like an utter idiot.

This is where you move, usually.

Or when you're ready. Either is fine.

Tom didn't much hesitate in showing up at the Coronation. He didn't have a real nice outfit, sure, but the cheap blue shirt and beige slacks were wearable, especially with the red tie he'd thrown on it. A couple of leather wristbands adorned each arm, and his hair, while still a mess of spikes and tufts, was slightly neater.

He did, however, pause upon arriving and seeing there wasn't anyone he'd met here yet... and nobody seemed to be Autumn either. The troll grimaced a little. Atop that, his Court was the one fading this Season. He stuck his hands in his pockets, and managed a smile. Hey, people at this Freehold'd seemed nice, probably there were plenty more to arrive yet he'd enjoy talking to. And if not... well, he was just here for the oath, not to cause trouble.

Strolling into the party, Mary takes a wide view at those assembled. Puzzled due to the belief that she is late, it suddenly dawns on her the reason for her punctual arrival. "I never fixed that clock for daylight savings. Huh. I should pretend this was intentional."

Her eyes positively ignite at the sight of the holiday spread, however, and she quickly approaches the dishes Mrs. Rosemary was adding to the table, exclaiming, "I really do think I should become your apprentice, your Highness, when you have the time! This is amazing!" Her cream-colored dress is stretched so as to appear glued to her body, evidently plumped up around the middle from holiday cheer (possibly in the form of hard cider and Oreos, as well as what left overs can be had from Fresh Tastes). Grabbing a plate to fill with a bit of everything, she notices the fruit cake, and is baffled by it. "What's in that?" she asks about the cake, as she gathers up some cocoa to sip.

Tally arrives wearing a baby blue sweater sporting white snow flacks on it, about the front, sleeves, and back and jeans. Moves towards the buffet, she takes note of the Fresh Tastes. She wishes the Spring Queen a Merry Christmas as she pours herself some Hot Chocolate.

She notices someone, seemingly hanging back. With a tender sip of her Hot Chocolate, she approaches one of the Winter Courtiers, the one that doesn't have his head on fire. "Hello, I'm Tally." She introduces herself to said Courtier man. Irina

Green appeared. On this occasion, he was waring a flannel shirt and jeans with working boots (extra polished for the occasion). In deference to the occasion he had actually combed his hair and beard into a semblance of order. Once he reaches the Hollow he can't help but stop and stare, caught between the magnificence of the Throne Room and festive spread.

"Wow..." he manages to intone. Internally, he fights the urge to move towards the spread. Instead he moves slowly to the opposite side of the chamber and... looms.

It is the Season of Winter after all...
