Mariel needs to talk with Twist about her Mother-Superior-approved plan to become a member of the Invictus. They meet at a place of Twist's choosing.

Twist had one of her staff meet Mariel in the lobby of her theater and escorted her to Twist's office. Opening the door for Mariel, the door was shut behind Mariel leaving her alone in the room with Twist. Twist for her part was sitting behind her desk, papers scattered about it, a small frown drawing her eyebrows together. At the sound of the door closing she looked up to see Mariel. A small chased away her frown at the sight of her.

"Mariel! I am so sorry our meeting couldn't be in a more social environment- work is simply burying me lately."

*I need Kalos back on his feet!* Twist thought to herself, making a mental note to try again later that evening.

Mariel is a little nervous bringing up the subject, but it has to be attempted.

Ok, so I haven't been here very long, right? But I notice that the First Estate and Second Estate aren't on good terms. I want to do what I can to make things better, to present a more united front and better community relations to the other Covenants. She takes a deep, albeit unnecessary, breath. I have been given permission to join the Invictus by the Lancea. I would hold dual membership in the two estates, and would work as a liaison between the two.

I understand that my offer might not be acceptable to those in the Invictus, which is why I am coming to you for advice, since you're a member. Is this a possibility, what I want to do?

Mariel feels some relief, finally being able to talk about her plans. She looks nervously at Twist to see what sort of reception her words will bring.

It took Twist a moment to recall that another term for the Lancea Sanctum was the second estate. She had no clue if what Mariel was saying was true or not regard the Invictus relationship with them either- she tended to avoid the Lancea herself. Which, as she was an Invictus, meant that Mariel was correct.

When Mariel mentioned being a member of both covenants, Twist's eyes widened slightly in surprise. Of all things that Mariel could have suggested- that was certainly not the one Twist was expecting. She took a moment to regain her composure before answering Mariel.

"It is possible" she began slowly as she tried to recall everything she knew of her knew covenant, "but highly uncommon Mariel. While the Invictus traditionally are close to the Sanctum, they still prefer their members to be theirs. But as they are close- it does help your case versus if you were Carthian. It is also not a very benificial thing- to you, the Invictus or even the Lance Sanctum. You would be restricted in the Invictus. Knowing that you hold a dual membership in another covenant, you wouldn't be allowed to increase your standings in the covenant. Covenant business would remain much a mystery and neonates joining fully will constantly be rising in the group where as you would be held stable."This of course doesn't help the covenant as a whole- while you are an additional member which looks good for our position in the city, you would be a small member forever. A small addition with no hope of helping more. I imagine the same to be true for the Sanctum. And in both covenants your dedication to each will be constantly in doubt"

"Of course- I don't say this to reject your proposal" she added with a soft smile for the girl. "Just to point out the challenges you face should you go through with your plan."

"In order to become a member of the Invictus you need a sponser. Someone willing to face the rest of the group and confirm that you are worthy to be of the Invictus. Because you are already a member of the Sanctum and don't plan on leaving them finding such a person is hard. If I were to sponser you it would be saying that I think you have something to bring to the Invictus- and while I know you do, with your dual membership you most likely will never be able to truly add in a large sense, which means your...value, for a word choice, is reduced and thus I am reduced by suggesting you."

She paused thinking, "I would suggest that you speak to the Reeve. He is Invictus as well. If he agrees then I will add my support to his for you being allowed in the Invictus."

*I can't sponser you anyways Mariel- not without his agreement. While Asa would no doubt agree, he is the one who named me Lady, Arnold did not. He would know and question a new member, me, bringing another in so soon. And one from another covenant at that. If he agrees though, that is another matter.

Mariel is clearly disappointed.
Oh. Well. Ok. I'll talk with Reeve Culler. Thank you.

I knew it was going to be hard, but losing status in BOTH Covenants? Not sure I can handle that.

Twist saw the disappointment take over Mariel. *She truly wants to be in both covenants* she thought, almost surprised. She reached out across the desk toward the girl, sympathy on her face.

"Mariel- is there maybe another way? One less restricting to you? You said you would want to be a liason. What is stopping you? Come to understand the Invictus- get to know the members. Work on your relationship with them. Talk to your fellow Sanctum and have them do the same. Start from there. If that doesn't work...maybe then consider joining our ranks with dual status?"

I'm not sure the Invictus would be open to that...so you're saying I should work on a case by case basis? I don't even have access to most of the members, said Mariel glumly. Do you think it might work?

A confused look passed across Twist's face, *Not have access to the member?* but she didn't follow the thought but instead moved to Mariel's question.

A small shrug, "I do not know Mariel...maybe if you define how the two estates are not on good terms? Address the root of the problem rather than the symptoms? And besides- wouldn't you have to do just that even if you joined the Invictus, no? You would join and be a new member, your word will most likely not be taken with high respect, especially with your duality. So you would have work on each member making them trust your word and personage. Why do you need to be a low ranking member to do that?" Twist looked over at Mariel through her lashes, her voice dropping slightly, "Is it not possible to become close to someone from another covenant without joining?"

Mariel smiled back. Shall we see?
