It was tradition to hold the meetings of the Haunts here, and sometimes there was no reason to change that tradition. Perhaps partly because he could be slightly given to nostalgia, but mostly because it served to Sidor an excellent reminder of the price of service, and power.

The only reward for hard work was to work harder.

The only glory in power paved the path to madness, and an inglorious death on one's own church floor.

In this regard, there was little purpose behind the meeting other than to familiarise the two new Haunts with the Domain. Since this effectively meant that their numbers were doubled, and there was the faint possibility of family business being brought up, he had considered it prudent to call a meeting.

    It was also quicker.

He waited in the rented room in the near derelict motel, the bustle of the Kine patrons far distant through the soundproof walls.

What else could really be expected in a place that rented its rooms by the hour?

    The Ridge Motel

By now, Whip Powell was well aware of The Ridge Motel and the room to which the Nosferatu meetings usually took place. Her very first introduction to this place had been... painful, to say the least. But such discomfiting memories were behind her and, as she exited and locked her car, each stride was sure and purposeful.

It would be the first family meeting in some time, and it would be a time to welcome the newcomers all together as opposed to one-on-one. She doubted there would be too much official business, but general queries were to be expected and welcomed.

An informed Kindred was a useful Kindred.

She rapped once, and then twice on the door with a knuckle and stepped inside.

"Good evening," the Haunt greeted, with a small smile.

Daedalus arrived but a few moments after the Whip, dressed in his usual manner with his walking cane in hand. The fact that his temporary haven was only a few doors down made getting to this meeting a rather simple matter, even for the near-blind Haunt.

The sightless animal within whimpered as he approached the room, desiring nothing more than to turn tail and flee. He would not allow it. He tightened his grip on the cane, focusing his concentration on forcing each step until he was in the doorway itself.

"Good evening" echoed the Morlock, his voice quiet and taciturn.

Sidor nodded very slightly as Doctor Powell entered, immediately followed by Daedalus. Good. They were both prompt, and he appreciated that.

He doubted Lord Culler would put in an appearance this evening, but it never hurt to expect the unexpected. For that matter, nearly all of the meetings had featured something remarkably unexpected.

And there was of course, the matter of the other newcomer. Hopefully, he would arrive soon also. (@Lexi)

    "Good evening, both of you,"
he said, carefully keeping his accent suppressed for the benefit of Daedalus. "Please, take a seat."

    Apologies

Alexei stepped out of a cab a few blocks down the street from where he'd been told this motel was, and glided along the side of the road the rest of the way. His feet almost didn't seem to meet the ground half the time you looked. He slowed to a halt, knocking on the door after watching Daedalus walk in, following inside about half a minute later. The strange beast inside him screams and howls, locked away behind eyes of perpetual calmness, as he comes upon the others in the room.

"Ah good efuning. I believe this is where I am supposed to be meeting?"

The Whip turned as the third Haunt appeared in the doorway, and as she had in Court there was that moment of disconcertion that was so unerringly familiar.

But Josephine smiled nonetheless, her demeanour professional but polite.

"Good evening... to you," she extended the greeting in her tell-tale halting speech. The Haunt turned, walking further into the room to sit down in the same chair she had months before, at the last Haunt meeting. The Whip seated herself at the right hand of the Priscus.

To Lazarev, Josephine gave a simple nod and a small, welcoming smile. They had, of course, already introduced each other at Court a short time before. "It is," she answered. "Make... yourself comfortable." She raised a hand, gesturing to the available seats.

Daedalus nodded politely as another entered the room, remaining silent until he knew the score. Priscus Grigoriev had informed him that the number of his cousins above ground was rather limited. Which begged the question, why were there now four people in a room which he had expected to house three? Was this fellow a new-comer like himself, or aligned with those Haunts dwelling within the Necropolis?

Questions, which he could only presume would be answered in time. He tried his best to ignore the scent of disinfectant and blood which so tore at his nostrils, taking a seat one down from the Whip. Close enough to show solidarity with the above-ground regime if this new face was indeed from the Warrens, without pressing on the personal space of the potent predator.

"Zdravstvuyte," Sidor said, without blinking behind the shadows. For various inscrutable reasons, but possibly just because he enjoyed speaking Russian, given half an excuse. "Welcome to the Ridge Motel, Mr. Lazarev." The pronunciation was effortless, unsurprisingly, although part of him rebelled at the prefix instead of the formalised name plus patronymic usage. However, he didn't know the other Haunt's patronymic, and it would have been rude to speak in Russian for the entire evening.

"My name is Sidor Rurikovitch Grigoriev, Deputy of the Domain of Sacramento, Bishop of the Lancea et Sanctum and Priscus of the Nosferatu," the Priscus added, his voice almost inflectionless. "I called you both here to night in order to introduce you to the city and answer any questions you might have. Please, make yourselves at home."

Sidor's complete lack of any visible cues made it rather difficult to tell how that phrase should have been taken, but he intended it to be formally reassuring.

"Zdravstvuyte indeed, ser Priscus. And to you all. It is a pleasure to meet others of our kin, though it saddens my heart dearly to see that there are only four of us." Alexei follows instructions nicely, his tall figure floating across the floor, alas not literally, though the power to hover would have suited him well, and settled down into one of the chairs. Tonight he dresses rather simply, a black leather coat over a pristine white tank top, and a pair of tight, faded jeans. His hair is pulled into a ponytail, not a strand out of place, though somehow still stretching down towards the lower half of his body.

"Madam Powell and I have met already, and may I reaffirm that she is a lovely creature, both in sight and to speak to."

Sidor watched Alexei impassively behind his shadows, and gave a very slight half-shrug. It was a good enough tack to start on, regardless.

"You have in fact, lead me to a very important point Mr. Lazarev. This is an Invictus Domain. Consequently, titling is of the utmost import. 'Madam' for example, is primarily an Invictus title. Whip Powell possesses a Clan title which should be used in all Clan matters. To the Sanctified, she is Paladin. To most of the Domain, she is formally addressed as Doctor Powell," the Russian Haunt said levelly. "Such things are of the utmost importance, particularly when speaking around members of the First Estate. We are all expected to behave with impeccable manners, and I will hold you all to that same standard."
