Derevko swiped himself into the DHS: Geo building very, very early, the morning after getting checked out of the fucked up hospital. He waited for Jaeger to get his ass in gear and arrive on time, leafing through the medical reports.

Derevko wasn't a Doctor, but he did at least have a functional understanding of the names of drugs. He just couldn't necessarily decipher medical jargon as well as a doctor could. He turned the pages over, working on the charts.

Fucking sons of bitches... no regard for civilians...

The rage kept burning in the back of his head, cold, black hate. He turned another page.

Oh, how he'd like to get the man who gave those orders alone.

Jaeger finished his breakfast, or rather his morning cigarette, before heading into the DHS: Geo office, swiping himself in in the same manner as his partner. He's grown used to the disheveled lobby and squeaky lift, though today there was an air of unrest seeing the still form of Derevko waiting for the elevator. Or maybe he was just waiting for Jaeger. It looked like he was going over something as he walked up alongside him. He might've recognized the folder of papers from last night, but all folders looked the same on the outside.

"Morning," he said redundantly, the stink of cigs still around the ex-detective. He tentatively pressed the button for the lift before stuffing his hands into his pockets.

"Still alive, I see," Derevko said, without looking up from his reading. "How lucky for you." He thumbed through the folder, finishing off the last page and screwing his eyes shut, briefly. He wished he'd stayed at home with a bottle of Jack and some ice. And maybe a wedge of lemon. When he hadn't been around decomp, he liked lemons.

Decent cigars, too. Cigars were good. They smoked smoother than cigarettes.

Made him miss Jackson. She'd gotten it, so much better than his current partner did. Fuck, even Dullahan had gotten it, right at the end. Poor kid. He'd have gone to check up on him, if he hadn't known that it would have just made it worse.

His partner gave him the usual distant attitude, something he was used to now. Did really make it easy for small talk though. There really wasn't anything to pass between them. They both knew why they were there. All that was left was to see the man in charge. When the elevator doors squeaked open Jaeger stepped in, moving to the buttonside and waiting for his partner to enter.

"Lucky, eh? Is there anything in there to indicate I shouldn't be alive?"

As Derevko suspected, there's a lot of medical jargon for him to try and unscramble.

A lot of it makes sense, with notations on heart rate and blood pressure, all reading as normal after his stay. It's looks like the doctor's had rushed through an FBC too - they really must be top notch, to get the results so quickly.

The one abnormality, noted in red, is Derevko's temperature. The chart lists it as 106.6.

Derevko might not have been a man of science, but he can recall that the human norm is 98.6.

Underneath is a roughly scribbled comment: under observation.

"No , but according to this, your Syphilis has AIDs," Derevko said, still turning through the pages. His expression hadn't lightened as he stopped on his temperature.

    106.6?

He didn't feel hot. Or feverish. And that was one Hell of a fever if he was that hot. For that matter, he had a vague idea that anything more than a degree or two hotter than 'normal', meant 'you are about to drop dead'. Why was he feeling fine, and why had he been allowed out?

    Under observation. That sounded ominous.

"Think I'm just gonna make a quick pit stop in the office before we go up and see the boss."

"Huh, probably because I'm always being screwed over, must be cause I'm so lucky," groaned Lynx at the bad joke. So it was the medical information anyways, like it would have been anything else. Lynx probably couldn't have deciphered it anyways, all that medical stuffing. Hell, maybe he had left there with several strains of knob-rot for all he knew.

"Sure, no problem. Cause Johnson loves to be kept waiting." Except they were still early enough where it wasn't a problem, but one ribbing deserves another. In any case he tapped the floor button for their department office and waited for the mechanical deathtrap to come to life.

"You wanna go knock on his door right now, you go ahead," Derevko said vaguely, his eyes still on the medical report. He was barely even listening to Lynx.

    106.6.

He should be having a seizure.

    Or at least feeling ill.

When the elevator doors opened again, Lynx stepped out into their office floor and meandered over to the water cooler, emptying some water for himself in a paper cup before drinking it down and heading over to his desk. He sat on the edge of it and waited for his partner. While he did so he fingered through the paperwork on his desk to see if there was anything he had overlooked or if anyone had left something for him.

Derevko ignored Lynx, pulling the medical kit off the wall and rifling through it for a thermometer. Must be one in there, it wasn't like people didn't get mysterious fevers...

He fiddled with the buttons for a moment and actually bothered to read the little diagram on the back of 'where to take your temperature'.

He considered it, and opted for the mouth, jamming the little metal ball under his tongue and waiting for the beep.
