Twilight is a time of transitions, a time of change. It is when night turns to day, or day to night. It marks the passage of time, and lets us know that we haven't just stopped. As a result, dawn and dusk are times of unusual energy and mystery to humankind.
Right now, twilight is almost upon the world. The darkened sky is only just starting to lighten, and the stars try desperately to shine their last light before day. It is the predetermined time, and the predetermined place. There is a spot just off of the bike trail through riverside park where one can look down the hill to the bank of the river and copses of trees add to the illusion of a wilderness. As the sky lightens and the dawn draws near, the air begins to warm. But for now a mist thick enough to be called a fog hovers over the river, and it hides the houses on the other side from view. For the very few who witness such a place at such a time, it becomes very easy to imagine that one is far from civilization rather than in the heart of a city.
