(1202) Eternal Winter

On this evening the Hollow Commons have been decorated for the occasion, which happens to be no other than the Winter Formal. The whole place is set up as a classical ballroom, with a main area in the center to serve as the dance floor. Tables are scattered around the dance floor and the bar is open as usual. Sam, the ensorcelled bartender, is standing behind it wearing a cheap rented tux and a simple mask, which does a pretty bad job at hiding his unamused look.

A variety of ballroom-appropriate tunes are playing on what appears to be an old record player, which upon closer inspection proves to be some sort of hedgespun contraption. The music ranges from Classical to Big Band, with some more exotic sounds such as those of Mambo thrown in the mix.

There are already some folks in attendance, some which are probably the hotel's staff, but its hard to tell since all of them are wearing masks and are dressed for the occasion. Of course the exception to this is the one rather large man who looks to be pretty uncomfortable in his suit, which is safe to assume is Big Swilla. A total of four men and four women are present at the moment, not counting the bartender, who just happens to be cleaning some glasses while he watches the others interact.

On a table to the side there are some papers laid out, with some fountain pens next to them. There's a sign hanging on the wall right above the table that reads Winter Market - Silent Auction. One of the younger women in attendance wearing an elaborate ball gown approaches the table and studies the papers closely, reading what is up for bids.

Danny was excited to be there. He liked the formality of balls, and the opportunity to watch the other fae dancing would be pleasant. Like a fairytale. He kept a tight hold on his cane, his long fingers gripping the wood and metal.

He had made his own mask for the occasion, a delicate brass half-face with spidery engravings. He grinned behind it, his short fangs jutting over his mouth as he looked around at who else had arrived. He couldn't wait to see the bids, either- or what else was on offer. The idea of trading like this, safely, away from the Hobs... yes, he liked that very much.

He was also a little nervous, but that was par for the course for Danny. He was nearly always nervous. Anyone who was familiar with fear had to know it pretty well in themselves, after all.

Oh, I hope someone likes my blade...

The next person to enter was wearing a moth-eaten grey, pinstripe suit with a bright green tie that hung loose around his neck. Instead, it seemed he had spent more time deciding on the mask than any other aspect of his outfit, really only knowing those from famous movies. However, coming wearing Freddy or Jason's face would most probably have been frowned upon.

Which is why he'd gone for something a little more dramatic.

The smog from Smudge's head billowed out behind him as he walked in and looked around from the visor the Ogre was hiding behind. Spotting the man with the cane, he gave a nod before taking a deep breath.

Rook walked in, in a tuxedo instead of his usual suit. This completely changed his appearance, as he was now wearing a bowtie instead of a tie. And a dinner jacket.

The Constable was also wearing a black domino mask. Underneath his sunglasses. It was visible around the sides of the mirrored lenses. He'd tried to find a mask with some sort of eye covering, but they all looked some degree of ridiculous, and he'd given up.

Consequently, while it couldn't be argued that he was exactly ignoring the theme, it also couldn't have been more obvious who he was. Not even if he'd happened to have a large flashing neon sign saying Rook: Constable of Calefaction behind his head.

    He strolled up to Sam.

"Scotch please," he said, in a casual tone.

Regina entered the room, looking at everything with an expression of awe on her face. The hollow was beautiful, and she loved it. She had forgone her normal black gothic clothing for something a little different, and she was pleased with the result.

There were others in the room, dressed in fancy clothing and masks, but she decided to look at the items in the winter market first, curious as to what her fellow changelings were selling. If there was anything that caught her eye, she would have to see about buying or trading for it later.

    Description

Terri's Mask is that of a petite, cute woman with vibrant red hair that has black streaks throughout. Obviously athletic, her natural demeanour is friendly and she always tends to have a smile on her face.

Her fae mien is akin to a red squirrel. She has a long bushy tail and ear tufts that poke through her hair. The black streaks are actually black feathers the are a part of her mien now,; a part of her noble order.

Terri's powerful Mantle initiates itself as the smell of baking bread but brings with it the feeling of the Harvest, that time to take stock of the coming troubles.

The combined Autumn mantles of the Dread Lord and the Harvest Envoy danced together in perfect harmony as Rick and Terri entered the Throne Room of the Four Seasons arm-in-arm. Even their masks complimented each others and Terri looked around, catching the eyes of those already in attendance, giving a nod in turn, the corners of her lips twitching into a smile when she saw the sunglasses of Rook.

Passing the auction table, Terri's attention was instantly drawn to the crafted blade by Danny and even the lucky coin by Marcus. although she was interested by the 'information gathering'. Can information like that by found so easily?

"Seems like many are willing to give for the auction. Its nice to see," she said to her heartsworn.

Dominyk hadn’t wished for a large social gathering to be his first entrance into the Sacramento Freehold; but it would have to do, especially if the gathering was one of his own Court. If nothing else it would give him the foreknowledge of possible connections he could make. He had chosen a black tuxedo, a black shirt, and a gold waistcoat and euro tie to match the gold and onyx filigree mask Alicia had suggested the previous year.

It might make an impression, a winter wearing a summer color.

Thankfully, the small flowers that bloomed with his hair had become Maids of February, this time without his persuasion.

He sauntered into the ballroom, and turned his grey-blue eyes around the room, before noticing the auction table.

Well, an auction would be a way to make an entrance. he thought as he headed in that direction, the soft smell of warm chocolate and cinnamon settling around him.

Regina smiled and waved in Terri's direction, but didn't go over to talk to her. The unfamiliar man who had just walked over to the auction table caught her attention instead, and she approached him, a friendly smile on her face.

Nearing him, she smelled chocolate and cinnamon, much to her pleasure, and she was especially amused by the flowers growing in his hair. It was always nice to meet someone who had something in common with her, even if it was something small.

"Hello, stranger," she said in greeting, dipping him a quick curtsy. She fluttered her eyelashes at him in a flirtatious manner that she had mastered during her durance. "Shall I introduce myself, or would you like to go without names for now?"

The fairest was looking over the list of the auction, the names he didn’t recognize yet, but he assumed that it wouldn’t be long before he could match the workings with their creators. He was only just trying to think of what he might bid on when he spotted another of the Lost walking in his direction.

Perfect he thought when she stepped up to him, as he opened his lips and revealing a sharp-toothed grin. And then dipped himself in a flourish of a bow.

What would the point of the masks be, if we shared our names so freely, M’lady?
"My father says that almost the whole world is asleep.
Everybody you know, everybody you see, everybody you talk to.
He says that only a few people are awake,
and they live in a state of constant, total amazement."
