The bait and switch is a classic maneuver in any deal. You offer one very appetizing thing, and then replace it with something decidedly less so. Been around since forever.

Often used in the early meat markets, where a butcher would go "in back to cut up some fresh." And would instead use inferior meat.

Her stalker followed at a distance. Going straight when she turned, turning when she went straight. Always staying close by. Always just on her heels.

It is also used in spy deals. Sell them nuclear secrets, but that result in releasing trace isotypes that can be used to track down production facilities.

Her hero. A young man, probably just wondering why this woman has just jumped to him, begging him for help, whispering that they need to get out of the light. The predatory gleam in his eye seals his fate, as he leads her to a "safe alley".

Of course, there is the biblican version.

"Whats your name girl." "Rachel." "Well rachel, I know a nice safe place."
He leads her to another alley, where a shadow sneaks up behind them. He feels a weight on his left shoulder, and looks to examine it. It seems to be a tire iron. Why would someone hang a tire iron on his shoulder? Turning back to Rachel, he instead finds a hideous face of fangs lunging towards him, latching on to his neck, sucking, pulling draining him of his blood.
