Nathaniel was now acclimated to the University scene, and it made for a much better opportunity to kick his Occult Club into gear. He wasn't about to make any official requests of course- but he managed to make some postings. One at the Community Center, for those that might check there, and on a billboard in the University Lounge Area, right by the motivational speech and the add for an apartment.

Occult Club Meeting in "(Name)" University Library Study Area, Room 3B, 8 PM!

Initial meeting on the idea of words or certain materials possessing an inherent "Other" quality to them.

The First Tongue didn't exactly possess some supernatural quality on it's own- but it was required in some Rites and incorporated with some gifts, so at the very least it might hold the means to augment Uratha abilities. Fetishes and Talens often required certain materials or designs- Bone was a common tool for use, though Nathaniel was unsure if such a thing was purely ceremonial, or whether bones made for a more suitable material for the Uratha's needs. Chiminage as well often had to be of a certain substance that a spirit would find appealing.

Still, going by this logic Nathaniel wondered what the chances were that some "Others" possessed a similar practice, or made use of specific substances and materials. Could ghosts be repelled by certain materials or exorcised by words? Would words spoken in a Demonic tongue hold power? Could gospel repel the Undead?

Questions to be answered- and more questions, perhaps, depending on the crowd. Maybe he'd see some familiar faces?

And, just in case, he'd made sure to contact Emily- on the off chance she wanted to participate.

This wasn't the kind of thing Shodan usually did. If he wanted to join an Awakened 'occult club' he'd contact the Mysterium, and for the most part the Obrimos cinsidered himself above mingling with easily excitable housewifes and bored teenagers that formed the backbone of most Sleepers' gatherings of this type.

And yet, a random glance at the posting in the longe area and a free evening sublimated into him being here. Dressed in a grey outfit, a perfect mix of class and sass.

"Yo" He says to the guy in room 3B. He looked... pleasant, but definitely had an edge to him "I saw the note, thought I'd see what's what. Anyone else coming?" Wasn't much of a club, with only two people in attendance.

An early arrival! Nathaniel was unsure whether or not this idea might gain ground with the general college students- though Nathaniel wondered if this man was such. An eccentric professor, maybe? The Crescent had yet to get to know all the professors on the scene.

"hey! Nice to meet you. I'm unsure myself at the moment- this is the first time I've held a session on this campus, and it's not like the topic tends to attract a great many people. I'm lucky to get a handful most time." The crescent pulled out several small composition books as he spoke- each with a title in black marker, each containing scribbles on topics regarding activities in this club. "Ley Lines," "Planes of Existence," "Words of Power," and "Materials of Power" were all available. A few blank books were also provided.

Naturally, the Uratha made sure to keep any lore or implications of his 'condition' separate- kept in a more private journal, back at the house. These notes here were speculation, mostly containing the things anyone could gather with enough research. The one on Ley Lines looks a bit more worn.
"Don't suppose there's any particular topic you wanted to discuss? The two in the posting are of the most recent interest to me, but I'm more than happy to talk about any aspect of Supernatural Theory. I'm not an expert by any means, but I've spent enough time on the matter to have an... Well, at least an entertaining if not informative discussion on the topic."

Circe was fairly nondescript, well for herself. No suit again. Brown cargo pants and black crop top belly shirt were partially hidden under a red jacket with plenty of pockets. The shoulder carried attache case from last time was now a larger laptop bag.

Most notable was that she entered with a cheerful spring in her step. Easily angered mortals were so filling and easily found at colleges whining about stuff. Circe gives a wave to Nathaniel as she enters, "Cioa Mr Host! Oh hey," she points at Shodan, "Ya have more 'n just me. Hello other person!" She cheerfully waves at Shodan, "Good thing too cause my friend I mentioned," she jerks a thumb over her shoulder, "Transferred outta town. Also didn't bring the spice rack but found ya some other toys instead."

Circe had tested said toys first. To see if Hedge Gates did anything with EMF or not. They didn't so that should be fine for these mundies to play with.

Circe squints as she looks around the room then claps, "So just us? Glad yer stil doin' no name tags, damn thing are annoyin' ta get off good clothes. So what are we talkin' about this time?"

Seriously? This bullshit is the best idea for a mage trap the FBI can come up with?

But fine. Shodan can play that game. He looks through the notebooks, giving particular attention to the ones on ley lines and 'materials of power'. Chances are, some of the info inside is legit, although Shodan doesn't have time to read the pages closely enough.

"You did a lot of research" He offers instead of an answer "I'm a computer specialist by trade, mechanic and scientist by hobby. So you can say I have much more interest in materials than words. Especially metals and alloys. Recently I started wondering if the so-called magical properties people in the past said they have can be explained as glimpses of things that are not yet understood by modern science"

He gives a nod to the exotic woman that just entered, sparing her few thoughts. Although his interest was more than picked up by the mention of 'toys'.

"I'm sorry, who are you again?" He asks Mulder and Scully "Any names I can call you by?"

The notebooks, for the most part, contain pretty basic information and bits of speculation. Little gems might be found, but altogether it's not very useful or informative.

The one on Ley Lines, on the other hand, holds several detailed notes and a folded-up sketch of what are, presumably, Ley Lines in the city. Small circles and page numbers lead to sections with landmarks and notable similarities in the areas, as if in an attempt to find patterns that, supposedly, such things might effect- landmarks, branches, specific plants, architecture- most of it probably with no connection whatsoever. Some pages also smell of coffee and... Saffron?
"I've always had an interest in the 'Other.' If anything, it's a fun hobby- I'm not sure if I should be expecting anything to come out of this. And I suppose, according to some things I've read, I shouldn't want anything to?" Emily seemed rather worried that something like this would attract the wrong attention- Nathaniel could understand why.

His idea of materials was intriguing to the crescent. "Hmm... So you're wondering if magical objects in the past weren't actually magic, but rather hyper-advanced tech made from a super advanced compound or through some process? An Alchemist that found the correct mix to create light from seemingly nothing, fire out of simple rocks? That'd work for quite a bit of stuff but-" This was how Nathaniel worked best. Long talks along mental corridors. -As I think you're suggesting? Even if such things were just natural properties, it's possible that some of these 'magic' things in the past would still be unexplainable even by today's standards, which might beg the question as to who designed such things- and how, exactly, they learned the means to assemble them. Did someone in the past just get really lucky?"

Uratha legend held several powerful objects- and most Fetishes, when not powered by Essence, had complex instructions and clauses most humans likely wouldn't uncover. The possibility that a sword of legend could be a Klaive just waiting to be wielded was... Exciting. That somewhere, something so simple- an ancient timepiece, an old hat, a Viking's axe- was a few whispers away from revealing itself. It was a dangerous possibility to be sure.

The pup's train of thought was temporarily interrupted by a familiar voice- The woman from before! Nathaniel had regretted not learning her name; now he could amend that! "Hey! Sorry about your friend- said you found some other things? I'd love to look at them! Oh um... I'm Nathaniel. And no name-tags, again- not sure we'll have enough people for it." If he did... Well, he doubted college would be a place for hunter groups to form.

Okay so mr new guy was an egghead. Circe was a hacker and gear head so not much room to talk but at least she did guns too. As for Warp Speed magic that got Circe to snort, "Wouldn't surprise me if a cursed idol that gave people horrid lesions and boils turned out ta be uranium or somethin' nasty. But ya know Greeks had ancient flamerthrowers and death rays so maybe some shit got lost over time."

Relatively realistic stuff compared to Atlatean submarine planes or pre-Colombian power armor. Circe didn't doubt that some weird objects had Fae origins be it Them messing with folks or Changelings arming their kinfolk.

She then looks to Nathaniel, "Yer a Nate? Nice ta have a name since we didn't last time. Didn't we talk about, uh, psychological residue on famous tools? Great deeds lendin' power ta tools used fer it? Or makin' people think it did?"

"Just so ya know new dude,"
she is eyeing Shodan, "I ain't one fer divin' fer sunken magical loot. Love me some engineering work, great ta get my hands dirty but nope on diving. So if ya hoped ta have me scuba in a bikini ta raise Voltron from Atlantis," Circe makes an X with her arms. "Not happening." And that was probably a summary of a random Anime. Then Circe smiles as she drops her arms, "But I won't be totally contrary, because ya can call me Merry. And you aaaaare?"

A device the size of a TV remote and a slightly larger hair dryer like device were withdrawn from the laptop carry case and presented to Nathaniel, "EMF and Heat sensors turns out are kinda cheap, like who knew?" She shrugs, "I mean ya ain't gonna get Predator vision on a budget, unless its 3 grand. Same fer that Kirlian stuff if ya can't get the spook ta sit on a glass plate fer a couple of hours."

Circe would spend $50 to amuse herself on mortals studying ghosts but not $400.

The sketch and notes will need to be investigated later for accuracy. Shodan has no idea as to why would the FBI map the city's ley lines, but they if they can come up with magic detectors maybe they have a use for their energy? The herbal scent of pages is weird, though.

'Some things he's read'? What's this guy on about? "Why's that?"

"The fact that something is unexplainable or impossible to replicate with modern science doesn't mean it's outside the scientific method. Also, even if we assume supposedly magical objects, materials and formulas were connected to some group that came before us - pre-homo sapiens species, aliens, angels, whatever - that doesn't mean they were 'designed'. It might be trash. Like in this novel, Roadside Picnic? Everyone is obsessing over artifacts left by aliens, thinking they're a big deal, while in fact they are the lethal equivalent of a used condom in an abandoned campsite" He answers 'Nathaniel', or whatever his real name is.

The olive-skinned one was really something else. One can wonder how she gets along with Nathaniel back at the office.

"I leave diving for treasures to bored billionaires and dictators. And I'd rather build a Voltron than dig it up" The word 'Atlantis' is almost makes him shiver, though. How much did they know? "What are you working on at the moment?" On the off-chance this woman wasn't a government agent, they can at least compare notes even, if not talks supernatural theory "What's up with the sensors, though? We going hunting for invisible space invaders or something?"

And since he was now the only one that hasn't introduced himself...

    "Adam, by the way"

The woman- whom Nathaniel would in the future regard as Merry- brought up a good point to mesh with the logic; simple things that couldn't be explained in the past.
"Nathaniel. And yeah, we talked about how ideas and beliefs could manifest within certain objects or places like graveyards; but it got me thinking, maybe we can narrow it down further. It could be that certain materials resonate better with these 'imprints.' Or that a specific vessel would need constructed to hold them. I figured that if we narrowed that list even further with these new things, it'd be easier to find stuff." Werewolf fetishes weren't all the same by a stretch- but there were rules. And Nathaniel knew of some Spirits that were particular about their being used- not to mention that the Uratha were pretty big on tradition; some standards might have passed on even after all this time.

The man, whom Nathaniel would in the future address as Adam, seemed interested about the pup's reasoning. "The kinda Pop-Satanism mass-produced cookie-cutter stuff today? Call-in Fortune Tellers and Devil Aesthetics, Crystal Healing and Store-Bought Voodoo? I don't buy into that. I look deeper, into the old texts. Legends of people that wore different skins, beasts that dined on flesh, devils and angels that waged brutal and bloody wars. And in most of those things, it rarely ever ends well for the human." The Uratha knew more than most in that respect- their origin story included a neat little tidbit about the world's literal and spiritual sundering.

"And what you say about our expectations is, perhaps, true- but at the same time, in that book example it confirms the existence of Aliens. Likewise, even if we were to discover... I don't know, a Demon Lord's Pencil, made from brimstone of the fourth layer of Hell or something ridiculous like that? That would give credence that there's MORE. I mean yeah I believe that 'Others' exist, but I'm trying to define and confirm them. Also, if by chance that Demon Pencil, mundane as it is, has powers? That's still amazing." Nathaniel knew that ghosts and spirits existed, and Emily knew that bloodsuckers did as well. Was that everything? Nathaniel didn't think so. That's what the theoretical were for. SOMETHING existed, that was always true. But until that something was narrowed down, that's all it would be- an 'Other.'

Wait. When had Nathaniel bought up diving? "Er... Yeah, I'm not a big fan of going underwater anytime soon. Or finding Atlantis, if that's... A thing? Much less for Voltron. Maybe we should start small first, like a Mausoleum or a cave in the woods, before bankrupting ourselves on legends? I'm with Adam- I'm curious, but not money-bags curious." Ancient Cities didn't come up much in Forsaken legend (they had little use for such things, given their nature), and the pup was still Uratha- that would always come first. This was a fun hobby and, perhaps, a form of supernatural defense should every evil legend turn out true. But the Crescent wouldn't obsess over it... Er... Too much.

He wanted to know their earlier and current work. Nathaniel was more than happy to oblige. "So I was discussing with these two other people from an earlier session... Case? Chase? about how one might use the belief of the supernatural as a means of healing things that modern medicine could not, and that led to a discussion of whether Faith and strong values could be used to combat 'Others,' which THEN led me with talking with Merry here about the possibility that such strong things might leave PHYSICAL imprints on the world- in objects or places, and that if these things existed in the physical world then they might be bound by the laws that govern it. And if that's the case, it's possible there's a way or a specific property that could be examined to find such objects." Nathaniel took a deep breath, and cleared his throat. "Um... So basically I wondered if they released a kind of Energy signature. Energy-Charged Objects, or ECOs, I think we nicknamed them." Essence bled off of things, at times. Why not other stuff?

There was also the talk of making a powder bomb capable of weakening or harming or exposing 'Others,' but that seemed more Merry's pride and joy- he'd let her discuss that.

Circe doesn't wait and puts the two meter devices down on a table near Nathaniel.

For some reason the explanation of Roadsie Picnic got Circe to laugh. The fact that Changeling could take something like that from the Hedge to use for crafting tools or weapons just made it funnier to her. Lara Croft had nothing on a Hedgespinner. "Killing people with used condoms? Oh ho ho ho ho! That's right up there with cheese bullets!"

And then he wanted to build Voltron. That got Circe to grin from ear to ear, "Ooooh I like that idea, not the five pilots at once thing. Or the sword. Prefer prefer that Gundam with the 4 gatling guns over a sword," she taps the side of her head as she speaks with a poor attempt at a Scottish accent, "Never bring a knife to a gun fight."

Then she listens as Nathaniel summarized the whole shtick of his club to Adam. Circe hoped this club would stick to spooks and never have the misfortune to find the fae. Because there can't be much worse out there then a Keeper in her opinion. As for the additional objection to diving that causes Circe to rub her forehead with a put upon sigh, "Ya boys. Ya don't get sarcasm do ya. Atlantis is Hollywood bullshit, like the idea pirates used ta say arrr."

She then points at Nathaniel, "But yeah. What he said. Figured stuff like things blessed by multiple popes or Charlemagne's sword would be valid but a lil' too secure ta test." She seriously needed to speak with Rhodes about this club too. This was straight up Autumn's alley but she only just realized it. "Plus a little other concern too," she digs into the carry case to pull out a small ball in a plastic sandwich bag, "Adam? Are ya familiar with the whole found film genre? Some idiots investigate a paranormal thing without safeguards and oh no," she shakes her hands, "It's real and pissed and they all die? Well fanculo that," the puts emphasis on those three words, "We wanna figure out good defenses BEFORE peeping a pissed poltergeist. Salt, sage, wolfs bane, garlic," she tosses the ball in a bag, "All supposed ta work against some nasties that go bump in the night. Chalk bombs are a easy thing ta make so just apply that ta the powdered anti-monster spices to slow 'em down to engage the universal emergency response plan."

Circe grins widely as she jerks a thumb over her shoulder, "Running the fuck away. I mean, it is what ya do when a plan fails."
